Implementing a lot of 1v1 variations playing out of a closeout Attacking closeouts is an essential part of an efficient offense. Creates advantages and open shots Closeout 1v1s put players in a live setting where they have to learn to make split second decisions on the catch

Playing off 2 was a big emphasis in our program this year Emphasizing playing off 2 feet helped our team finish about 10% better at the rim compared to 1 foot finishes this year Playing under control, on balance, and through contact were all benefits of off 2 finishes

From graduating with zero offers to breaking out at Ohio University, Jason Preston embarked on an improbable journey to get to the League. Now the San Diego Clippers guard is helping others follow in his footsteps with his YouTube hoops series. slam.ly/jp-259

On the new episode of the “White Noise Podcast,” Derrick White explains how Joe Mazzulla had the Celtics do a drill where the winners had to run: “You’re getting rewarded by running. He was like, ‘We gotta change our mindset that winning is the reward. Running is our reward.’”

Struggling to finish? Work on shortening your angle at the rim. Getting your hand as close to the rim as possible takes away room for error. May seem obvious but just watch the difference in how much easier the finishes are when Kyrie is able to get right to the rim

Winning closeouts is a key piece to creating advantages offensively. Can you attack a vulnerable defender closing out and make a read off the kick out pass? This opens driving lanes and puts the defense at a disadvantage. Winning closeouts creates higher offensive efficiency

Want to be a good transition team? Focus on winning your first 3-5 steps in transition. You will get the advantage with numbers and will catch a lot of defenses off guard as they fail to sprint back. Putting an emphasis on this is a game changer for transition offense

Another important part of finishing is initiating contact at the rim. Watch how Kyrie jumps into his defender to take them out of the play. He gets an advantage by being the first to initiate contact, taking his defender out of the play, and preventing them from blocking the shot

An important part of getting to the rim is learning to initiate contact and play through bumps. Just watch how SGA and Nembhard never lose momentum on their drives. They initiate the contact, maintain balance, and use it to their advantage to drive their defender to the rim

Want to score more PPG? Become a great cutter. Any time you see you see your defender’s head turn away, instantly cut back door. You’d be surprised how many simple baskets you can score just from learning how to cut to the basket
