More convinced than ever that there is a shadowy cabal of puppet masters at the top of our society looking out for our best interests and quietly regarding us with benevolent kindness

My “for you” feed was convinced he was staying home to start World Wars 3 and 4, so I guess those are canceled?
SCHEDULING CHANGE: Trump rallies in Kansas, Iowa back on, per source familiar "Rallies are BACK ON! President Trump loves his supporters, and in addition to nearly 20 tele-rallies, he will hold back-to-back rallies in Kansas and Iowa on Sunday. No one works harder, fights harder, or loves the American people more than President Donald J. Trump! The rallies were rearranged for scheduling purposes to accommodate dozens of additional tele-rallies that were recently added to the President’s schedule."

My most firmly held crank belief is that this is what Dune is about
Michael Pollan reveals how the introduction of caffeine completely changed human history and consciousness. "Before caffeine, it was a very different world and a very different consciousness. People were drunk a lot of the time, buzzed almost all of the time because it was safer than water" "Water was really how you got diseases. If you fermented things, even low alcohol, it killed a lot of the microbes. So people, even kids, drank hard cider for breakfast" "Tea, chocolate, and coffee all arrive in the same decade in England, and things start to change... no one ate or drank boiling water or hot beverages before" "Boiling it made it much safer. This gave this incredible public health boost to these places, and then you have the drug that fosters a kind of more linear, rational, focused way of thinking" "People in the 1600s started writing about it saying, 'Wow, we have this new civil and sober drink that we can use.' And that, I think, makes possible things like the Industrial Revolution"
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The clip repeats the myth that pre-caffeine people were mostly drunk because water was unsafe. Historians and medieval sources show water was commonly drunk from wells/springs while weak ale provided nutrition/calories, not a substitute for bad water. leslefts.blogspot.com/2013/11/the-gr… slate.com/human-interest… fakehistoryhunter.net/2026/02/02/dri…

Was anyone going to tell me Emmanuel Lubezki shot DIGGER on VistaVision? What the hell have I been doing all month? Is there an 8am showing anywhere?
Photographers: DIGGER was shot on VistaVision. That's 35mm film running sideways through the camera, 8 perforations a frame, roughly twice the image area of standard 35mm. The camera design is from 1954. The lenses are Leitz. Behind it is Emmanuel Lubezki, who won three Oscars in a row. Not a phone-screen film. Marxism isn't some rigid political dogma. Its a powerful set of intellectual tools for criticising films and music you don't like.

This is kind of a niche one but you have to respect the French épéeist Laurence Épée
Name an athlete whose real name is so good it sounds made up. Not a nickname, the actual name on the birth certificate. Any sport, any era.

Devin Cooley seems to always have the most goalie-coded responses and might be the most entertaining interview in hockey 😭🤣

I don’t agree with this. Cooley has no thoughts for about 2 hours and 40 minutes because he’s doing something like meditating while he plays; they all come rushing back at the end of the game. Wallace’s problem with Austin is that she seems to have no thoughts at all, ever

The perfect album is 12 songs, 72 minutes and 11 seconds, and was released on May 2, 1989 by Fiction in the UK and Elektra in the USA
since we’re doing album discourse, lemme add my lukewarm take: the “perfect” album duration is 10 songs and 28-32 minutes.

Maybe more interesting: just realized that you can weigh something to find out its weight, but you can’t heigh it to measure its height
