Once again I draw your attention to the bit that says "including snacks"
Tonight's the big one, the one with the guy watching the paint dry. Come for the paintbrushes, stay for the glisten.
(This is a work of fiction and any resemblance to performative cruelty mongering government ministers living or dead is purely coincidental etc and so on)
Every day this week, a new short story from author @jon_mcgregor celebrating stillness and still life art will be read at 22:45 on @BBCRadio4.
Tonight, watching the paint dry on a community centre wall, a man suddenly fears what has been painted over 🖌️

I am open to enquiries for the book about nothing happening

Will Still Lives be coming out as a book? Please say yes… the writing is exquisite. I want to savour each word of every episode.
If you're into nuclear bunkers, you'll love this. Launch on Monday at the lovely @BroadwayCinema , who are also showing everyone's favourite nuclear horror film, Threads.
fiveleavesbookshop.co.uk/eve…
Phew. Copies arrived in time for our launch on Monday @BroadwayCinema, from conception in May, to visiting the inside of the Nottingham cold war bunker in June to arrival today, thirteen writers and one photographer... Well done writers, editors, photographer, printer... and us
I regret to inform you that friday's story is not "like" paint drying, it is literally *about* paint drying. Sorry.
Writers, ⬇️ this is the way to sell your story! 😂Haha. (Can’t wait to listen to your boring-snoring ‘like paint drying’ story via @BBCSounds @jon_mcgregor 🙏🏽.)
If you thought the story about the bowl of fruit was uneventful, wait until you hear this thing about a coffee pot. Light glinting, etc etc. Tonight, @BBCRadio4, 10.45pm.

This just finished, but you didn't miss much. You can listen again on BBC Sounds, I guess.
I wrote some stories where absolutely literally nothing happens, mostly to stick it to all the Dramatic Arc Dudes. It'll probably be just a bit too quiet for you. Starting tonight at 10.45pm on @BBCRadio4, dragging on all week.

Come for the bowl of fruit, stay for the cheese-board, stick it out until Friday's grand finale with the drying paint
I entertained myself recently by calculating journey times if cross-country trains moved at the same speed as trains to London, i.e. well more than twice their current speed. I could get from Nottingham to Norwich or Manchester or Leeds in about an hour. THAT's high speed rail.

We have arrived in Nottingham a few minutes late. Over 2 hours to do this 70 mile journey today connecting 3 city regions with a combined population of Ave speed under 35mph. A corridor with huge potential in advanced manufacturing, digital, clean energy and financial services.
