📣📖Proud to share our new collaborative publication examining international practice patterns in #PancreasTransplantation for patients with #Type2Diabetes (#T2D)! 🌍🧬
@TransplantJrnl-Direct July 2026
💡Historically reserved for type 1 diabetes, pancreas transplantation is increasingly being performed in selected patients with T2D—but approaches to candidate selection vary across centers.
🏥Most surveyed programs reported offering pancreas transplantation to patients with T2D only when kidney transplantation is also indicated.
⚖️BMI thresholds, insulin requirements, and C-peptide criteria differed substantially between centers, highlighting ongoing variability in eligibility assessment.
💉🥗⚕️Many programs also reported using weight optimization strategies, including lifestyle modification, GLP-1 receptor agonists, and bariatric surgery, to help patients meet transplant candidacy goals.
🌟These findings provide an important snapshot of current international practice and the evolving role of pancreas transplantation in T2D.
