You "shared some tears" because they're holding a Harry Potter event for kids in a park ? You "disavowed" @jk_rowling ? Are you in a cult ?
Last night, @ParkBoard did the right thing. Apologized to TGD2S community after emotional discussion. Shared some tears. Disavowed JKR. Will undertake concrete actions to rebuild trust. xitter.cf/vangreens/status/19760…

In Jan, 2024, we broke the story of Ted Vizzutti, the Powell River paramedic forced out of his job for opposing changing the City's name. On Oct 17, 2026, Vizzutti was elected to Powell River City Council. All the pro name-change incumbents are gone. newwesttimes.com/news/unreco…

Uh oh looks likes someone has a faulty “rizz” detector
He has the highest approval rating ever because he is a Conservative, so he has their support, and the Liberal partisans aren't willing to accept that he's a Conservative, so he still has their support too. Carney has absolutely fucked our political landscape.

I don't think I met a single person who wanted Alberta to separate. otoh, I met a *lot* of Toronto progressives who never leave the 416, yet were somehow certain that the very fact a referendum was being held meant that every Canadian conservative is treasonous and unpatriotic
"The results ought to demonstrate Albertans for what they truly are — a mostly sensible and pragmatic people, if occasionally very slightly insane. God bless." readtheline.ca/p/jen-gerson-…

culture warriors are going to see this headline and go nuts. But the message is quite valid (and even welcome)…. Shakespeare & other great writers from the past should be read and enjoyed, precisely because their universal themes can inspire everyone theguardian.com/artanddesign…

and her campaign is exactly what you expect
I'm just going through the names and reading apologies on gallowayapologies.com/ and came across Marcelle Kosman who is a big believer in "fairness and transparency" and is running for Edmonton school trustee.

great trial update from @bradcran. One reason UBC's creative writing dept believed the false accusations against Steven Galloway is that the accuser claimed CBC lawyers had already seen her claims, & believed them. It was a complete lie. She never even spoke to a CBC lawyer.
Steven Galloway trial: A.B. claimed CBC's lawyers found her evidence "damning." Today, the CBC journalist who worked on the story was asked under oath if it ever went to the legal team. "No." #UBCAccountable #CanLit truthandconsequences.substac…

I don't usually do long monologues for the @Quillette podcast. But when I did my intro for this weel's interview with @preta_6 about the Steve Galloway trial, I ended up talking for 10 minutes. Turns out I had a lot to say
Steven Galloway went from CanLit royalty to pariah on allegations a retired judge later found unsubstantiated. Now his accusers are in court. @jonkay on one of the founding epics of Canadian cancel culture.

Darwinian selection at work on BC’s roads
The New West subreddit is in meltdown mode over the election results. People are calling the (Métis, centre right) mayor and his supporters racists. Cyclists are losing it over the idea that our empty bike lanes might be converted back to car lanes.

To go through this smear campaign made you feel like Obama being accused by Trump of not being born in the US.
Steven Galloway's accuser sought more than $3 million from UBC. Via @MiaHamm. Explains a lot "(Galloway) also discussed the viral hashtag, #UBCaccountable, which referred to a 2016 letter calling for due process for Galloway. "The letter was signed by many well-known writers, incl. @MargaretAtwood (and B.C.'s Carmen Aguirre, John Vaillant, Terry Glavin, etc.). "However, as Galloway testified, many of the signatories faced online abuse and even lost friendships or jobs. Galloway told the court he 'felt incredibly guilty' about the abuse faced by those who signed the letter." nationalpost.com/opinion/amy… via @nationalpost

to understand how utterly unhinged some academics & writers got at the height of the anti-Galloway witch hunt, here are excerpts from a 2019 podcast by @SFU prof Hannah McGregor She calls @MargaretAtwood a "shitty white woman" bcuz Atwood said Galloway had a right to due process

here's another gem—this one from 2018. Author Zoe Whittall going nuts because everyone was talking about "due process" instead of just, yknow, assuming Galloway is a rapist.
