Jay Cal, a former 22 SAS operator and Royal Marines Commando with nearly 18 years in uniform and 11 combat deployments.
He earned the green beret with 45 Commando, including a 2010 tour in Sangin, Helmand, one of the most violent British deployments of the Afghan war, before passing UK Special Forces selection in 2012. In the SAS, he worked counter terrorism, hostage rescue, and covert reconnaissance across Afghanistan, Iraq, and North Africa.
His most unusual assignments were with US Tier 1 units. On a year-long exchange he embedded with a Delta Force assault squadron at Fort Bragg, trained and deployed with them, and was given an American flag to wear on his kit. He has called 'The Unit' the best close-quarters team he ever worked with. He later became the only SAS operator publicly described as a Green Team instructor at DEVGRU (SEAL Team 6), helping run the course that screens candidates for that unit.
In 2022 he led an SAS detention mission that later became the subject of a war-crimes investigation and a murder charge he publicly denied. He said the case ended his military career and that a Queen’s Commendation tied to earlier service was withdrawn. Jay and his teammates were eventually cleared of all charges.
After leaving the military he moved into private training and security. He is currently a lead instructor with GBRS Group, a company founded by former DEVGRU operators known for high standard CQB and marksmanship instruction.
A Royal Marines Commando, then an SAS operator that spent time with America's most elite Tier 1 units.
Respect.

"I don't know why the federal government doesn't do them anyway"...uh...the CONSTITUTION. Which you took an oath (more than once) to defend and protect.
Is he unaware? Or does he know? Which would you choose? Neither choice looks good.
Just ran into a client in our shared coffee shop/office. He tells me he bought 5 tickets to the Billion dollar lottery. He figures we'll have things to discuss after the drawing. Trusts, taxes, trips to Spain. He says with 5 tickets he can't lose right? I love this job.
Joan Baez backup vocals on Helpless during Helpless is peak Thanksgiving. Happy Turkey Day to all who celebrate.
What I thought was a job interview at the table across from me at my coffee shop is a first date. At 10:30 on a Tuesday morning. Bless them
For my fellow Financial Planner Association members. Or former members. I’m struggling a bit with FPA having Andy Fastow as a keynote speaker at National. The guy is a convicted felon. He basically stole money from the people we are supposed to serve. Am I nuts? @OneFPA
Sitting in my local coffee shop. Working on a market overview strategy for a few clients. Listening to the Clash. Caffeine and Joe Strummer!
Enough with the hedge fund, tech bro, economist, financial product salesman telling me that kids don't need to learn how to write. They should just get better at Chatgpt prompts. Forgetting that writing clearly influences thinking clearly. Silly people
Working on taming my addiction to checking email frequently. This is hard! So interesting.
I’ve got a timer set until the next check. I’m trying not to check the timer now.
The business model of social media is outrage. Post something that makes people mad, that triggers emotional arousal which leads to longer engagement. How are you moderating your exposure? For the coming four years or the previous term?
Whoever thought putting the dyslexic kid in charge of transferring meaningless tickers and strings of digits from one screen to the other. Wait... I think I'm the culprit in all positions.

I’m a NYT-bestselling Trump biographer, and this is the culmination of what I learned over a decade.
What do you think—any chance we could get this to 50K RETWEETS by Election Day?
Replying to @behaviorgap
@behaviorgap at a FPA conference in ‘08 maybe? My first exposure to behavioral finance. The speaker explained all the strange things people do around money and choice.

Social media is flooded with bad tax advice
Daily, I come across posts that are completely misleading
It’s tough to know what’s real and what’s not
Let me debunk the 14 biggest tax myths and explain why they’re wrong:
Called a huge prospect this morning. he’s not sure if “now is the right time to proceed.” I ask if I can give him the sales pitch? “Go for it!” I do my honest, conversational explanation. I invite his wife into the discussion. Follow up in 2 weeks. Why do I think this is hard?
