Good Luck to the Gears’ Siblings who are taking on the Hamsterley Forest Trail Half Marathon in memory of their wonderful Dad, Anthony Gears, who passed away from mouth cancer 16 years ago on 25 June 2010. A huge ‘shout out’ goes to the wonderful driver of the Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust Screening Unit, Jonathan Green, who took part in the Mouth Cancer Foundation Awareness Walk once he had delivered the mobile dental unit to site. Jonathan, who works with the Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust in North East London as part of the outreach team, parked up, walked 5K and raised an impressive £270 in the process. The screening unit is an important part of the Mouth Cancer Foundation Awareness Walks giving walkers and members of the local community the opportunity to find out more about mouth cancer, the importance of early detection and encouraging people to be proactive about their oral health. Then at 1115 on Saturday 10 October, also in the Keynote Theatre, Mouth Cancer Foundation President, Joss Harding and our Patient Liaison Officer, Karen Liesching-Schroder, will be carrying out a joint presentation, ‘From Recognition to Recovery: A Shared Journey through head and neck cancer’, covering both the professional and patient head and neck cancer point of view. The Dentistry Show London (DSL) is the capital’s largest dental event taking place on 09-10 October. The event brings together the whole dental team with over 4, 000 dental professionals gathering under one roof. NEW MOUTH CANCER FOUNDATION CARER GRANTS 💙 Our recent Mouth Cancer Foundation launched the Mouth Cancer Foundation Gordon Hills and Clare Jones Grants to support patients with head and neck cancer are proving really popular. So, it gives us great pleasure to now extend these grants out to carers as well. The Mouth Cancer Foundation is dedicated to supporting patients and their families and once a patient has been diagnosed the focus tends to be on them and family members and carers, can sometimes be accidentally forgotten in the process of treatment and recovery. Our carer grants are also up to the value of £250 per head and neck cancer patient per year and can cover a wide range of needs.
