"What holds the sculpture and the sculptor tightly together is the common yearning to see, and a restlessness to reach out to the sky. The act of seeing became, in the artist’s own perception, the leitmotif of her journey through life." scroll.in/article/1094868/a-… An excerpt from ‘From the Depth of the Mould: Meera Mukherjee (1923-1998), A Centenary Tribute’, edited by Tapati Guha-Thakurta. @ju_press #bookexcerpt

Few have shaped our understanding of Hindi and North Indian literary cultures like Francesca Orsini. To know she’s been denied entry into the country she’s written about with such love and rigour feels deeply wrong.
Francesca Orsini's scholarship has greatly enriched Hindi literary studies and history of the book in India. She is a renowned scholar published worldwide in English and in Hindi. She has just been denied entry into India, with no reason given.

Francesca Orsini has done more for Hindi than many so called lovers of Hindi. To not allow entry to a true lover of languages and literatures of this region, someone who has always told its stories with care, is deeply concerning and heartbreaking.

Deepa Bhasthi is not only the first Indian translator to win the prize, she's also the one who actually put the book together from a wide range of Banu Mushtaq's stories. 'Heart Lamp': written by a woman, translated by a woman, edited by a woman.
Yessssss! Deepa Bhasthi and Banu Mushtaq win the 2025 International Booker Prize 2022 as translator and writer, respectively, of 'Heart Lamp', a collection of stories originally written in Kannada. @TheBookerPrizes @kan_writersside @andothertweets @PenguinIndia

"If publishers don’t seek to understand the fragile economics of running a small independent—and the risks taken by brave, entrepreneurial and creative individuals— and use imagination to invest in allowing those bookshops to thrive commercially, then we are in big trouble."

Enjoyed the Bangla translation of Dubliners very much. Esp A Mother and The Dead and the masterful introductory note on Joyce's life and the reception history of Dubliners (I had to go to the Wiki entry on The Dead to figure out the plot though) Congratulations @ju_press @offog!
