This is actually difficult to believe, I’m floored
We made the first AI model you can have a realistic conversation with that was trained entirely on speech! Dessa is a full-duplex speech-to-speech model that you can run on consumer GPUs. This is a GPT3 moment for speech.

What a bizarre movie we’re living in
Replying to @Suhail
I’ve heard several OAI people say there are unfixable bugs in hardware that are exploitable by AI models directly speaking machine code so even if we could solve software that’s not enough. We need defense to move faster than offense if that’s even possible we may just have a new normal that requires adapting to insecure software (bank transfers require going into a branch and taking a dna test 🤣😬)

It’s encouraged to critique the output that AI generates. But calling it slop, without a thoughtful statement about *why* it’s slop is intellectually lazy. Fine to say it’s slop, but why? Be specific and offer counterexamples of what would make it not slop. Don’t be lazy!
46
Throwing around the word “slop” has to be one of the more intellectually lazy trends of the day. Like I tell my kids, don’t just say something is bad, say *why* you think it is. If you’re going to demand quality of thought from the AI, you should also demand it of yourself
Calling something slop without saying *why* it’s slop is slop. Show us how you'd improve it. Precisely. Take their work. Re-write it. Make it better, stranger, more alive. The only thing worse than a slop creator is a slop critic.

it’d be incredibly funny if ai started reverse engineering the world’s most closely guarded recipes, like coca cola & kfc’s secret blend. someone please connect a physical tongue to an ai so it can actually taste food & drinks. then we can finally put an end to the insufferable “ai has no taste” discourse. although i’m sure we’ll immediately be told that ai can taste but it doesn’t have taste.

“But AI doesn’t write code as well as humans” 🙄
If AI had been writing and reviewing its own code for the past few decades, and humans had only recently started looking into what it was up to and discovered an ever-growing list of CVEs, we would reasonably conclude that AI hadn’t been good at coding all along and that we should just start over. Except it’s the other way around. Humans have been the ones writing and reviewing each other’s code for decades. Very diligently, if I may add. If we’re being intellectually honest and holding ourselves to the same bar we hold AI to, we’d have to admit that we haven’t been all that good at it either.

I keep hearing people talk about hallucinations like it’s 2 years ago. Y’all gotta stop drinking so much cope and start to settle into the reality of where things are at and going. Don’t lull yourself into thinking AI is somehow dumb, you’ll get destroyed in the future.
At a conference on AI & legal profession. I'm sorry folks, but you are over-indexed on hallucinations. You aren't calibrated on the magnitude of the problem and it's possible that one reason is psychological. It's comforting to think that the robots will never be as accurate & diligent as we are. *I am NOT saying that AI doesn't hallucinate or never makes mistakes; indeed, I believe that it does.

We made so many assumptions that relied on natural limits of humans that just aren’t good assumptions anymore
a lot of old software was protected by “exploiting this would be an unreasonable amount of work” we have invented a machine that does unreasonable amounts of work anyway how’s the patch backlog

I sent this text to my family text thread this morning. Maybe a good idea for those with folks in their family that aren’t following tech news this week.

The funny thing is everyone was saying AI slop code will cause a cyber crisis but it’s actually all the old human slop causing it and the AI is just cleaning it up

We’re like 5 frontier releases away from “acquire me a yacht” being a reasonable task for an agent
You’re all prompting wrong

My favorite part of this is just how dumbfounding it is to think you can just ask for things now. “Find bad vulns in this” “Go build me a pedometer” “Make a 3d model of my house from these 5 photos” like wtf

Are you kidding rn. First the php vuln now this? What a day

You've gotta patch your dependencies super fast because they're full of vulns (PHP, Node, eMudhra, etc), but not _too_ fast because they're full of backdoors (LiteLLM). Good luck!

Maybe the basis of humor and surprise is that when our own next token predictors hallucinate one expected result and we think it’s funny when it gets it wrong

I wonder if the introduction of gen AI software is similar to the move from metal to molded plastic in physical goods. There is a drop in total quality, but the lower cost massively increased the market. And market forces create Pareto optimality over time in price / quality.

I’m not sure I believe in the death of SaaS, but also, if I was starting a company today with the typical 10 year exit goal, it absolutely would not be a SaaS company
