Feels like more evidence the ad polled bad before it even leaked and Vivek just wants to settle the score with a party elite that never really got behind him
For those who follow the daily polls and political trends, the floor may have just fallen out from under the Republican campaign for Ohio Governor. And any Republican who fails to distance themselves from this ad risks taking on water as well. I have to give Jon Husted credit. He said he would not have run the ad. That was the right response. While he stopped short of outright condemning it, he made his position clear. Vivek Ramaswamy needs to pivot, and quickly. Stop defending the ad and start talking about his policies, his vision for Ohio, and why he believes he is the better candidate. If he chooses to double down, I don't see anything good coming from it. Here's what too many people in politics seem to forget: Voters don't always elect the most qualified candidate. They often elect the candidate they like, trust, relate to, or even sympathize with. You can have the strongest résumé, the best policies, and the most impressive background, but none of that guarantees victory if voters don't like what they see or hear. And when voters believe someone has been treated unfairly, sympathy can become a powerful political force. Elections aren't won simply by convincing voters that your opponent is worse. They're won by convincing voters that you're better. That is a lesson every candidate, Republican or Democrat, would be wise to remember.

A new analysis shows early in-person voting among Black Georgians is up 33% compared with the first nine days of voting in 2022, while turnout among voters under 30 has jumped 54%. Among young Black voters, the increase is an eye-popping 80%. #gapol ajc.com/politics/2026/10/dem…

You could have the world's most incompetent staff and wouldn't you still, as the candidate, give like 2 seconds of thought as to the most obvious question you'd get asked in an interview like this?
NEW: Who is an example of a police chief that Nithya Raman really respects or admires? "I don't know...I don't know." Raman is now apologizing for her recent debate remarks that LAPD Chief Daryl Gates was a "gold standard" for his handling of immigration. Critics accuse Gates of racist policies. "It was a mistake to reference his name at all. I was trying to make a point and I fumbled that point. That point was not to praise Daryl Gates in any shape or form. I sincerely apologize for mentioning his name. I know it causes real pain for so many people across Los Angeles and I shouldn't have said it." Raman has said she wants to dismiss current LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell but has not floated any names of potential replacements. We'll have a lot more with Raman coming soon on @CNNTheStoryIs

Wanted to wait for a bit of investigative journalism before I commented... ..but now that we know her stepfather was indeed charged with rape (and fled to avoid conviction - this was far easier 50 years ago with statue of limitations) I'd say that is the worst ad of history.

Here's an extremely gentle interview between Acton's mother and Operation Rescue in 2020 where she admits: 1.) the allegation was made (one of at least two against the same man) 2.) it got to a grand jury in 1978 and 3.) she left town with the husband to escape it.
Amy Acton claims her mother and stepfather abused her as a child and that criminal charges were filed against them. Acton's mother says that isn't true. This conflict can easily be resolved by finding a record of the charges.

Court records and newspaper reports from 1978 show that Cledith Arthur, Amy Acton’s stepfather, was charged with rape of a 12 year old girl in Mahoning County, OH. Multiple other accounts, including her brother’s, corroborate this. Donna Arthur lost custody as a result. x.com/justinbarasky/… nationalreview.com/news/amy-acton… nytimes.com/2026/10/20/us/…

Mahoning County doesn't have court records from before 1989 online. This is stated clearly on the courtview page. What a disgusting smear
Oh, it looks like Amy Acton (@amyactonoh) was never sexually assaulted by her stepdad: “A search of Mahoning County court cases shows there is no record of any criminal charges ever having been filed against Donna or her husband in Mahoning County.” Angry Amy has some serious issues.

1978 reports and court records show stepfather Cledith Arthur charged with rape of a 12-year-old in Mahoning County; fled after testimony. Pre-1989 records often need in-person access, not online. Yeah I don't know if the mother that Amy Acton has been estranged from since she lost custody when Amy was 12 because she was a danger to her kids, sent them on a bus by themselves across state lines as children with no steady housing, and married a child molester who abused Amy and sided with him over her own daughter is the slam dunk you think it is here. But it does go with the general pedophile protector status that the Right has gained. From August 2019:
BOMBSHELL: Ohio Democratic gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton’s own mother urges voters not to vote for her daughter. “My name is Donna Arthur and I’m Amy Acton’s mother. I worked at Children and Family Service Association, building one of the first two sexual abuse programs in America. I love my daughter, but when I saw her lying about her opponent—and it’s not easy for a mother to say this—but Amy has a serious problem. She is a liar. She lies about her past. She says she grew up living in a tent. None of that is true. She’s lied her entire life. My daughter needs help, and she can’t help you if she needs help herself. People can change, but first they have to tell the truth, and my daughter still isn’t doing that. Don’t vote for people who lie. Don’t let her become your governor. If you think she’ll make your life better, you’re fooling yourself. It will only get worse.” That’s one hell of an October surprise.

National Review has identified court documentation showing that Cledith Arthur, Donna Arthur's husband, was indicted by a grand jury in 1978 for sexual contact with Acton. NR also found that Donna Arthur pled guilty to theft in 1996 and was accused of animal abuse in 2021. nationalreview.com/news/amy-acton… ujsportal.pacourts.us/Report/CpDocke… smry.ai/www.centredail…

Vivek’s ad with Amy Acton’s mother is one of the most despicable things I’ve ever seen in politics. He’s arguably the most unlikable person in the history of people…because of stuff like this. By the end of the day, Ohioans will learn what happen to Amy as a 12-year old girl, how her mother lost custody of Amy as a result, and what a disgrace Vivek is for pulling this.
