If your on benefits and have no intention of working even if you could then what happens to taxpayers in budget you couldn’t care less. What happens when those taxpayers have had enough?

To any young ones out there who think the state pension doesn’t matter or should go — please take a moment to listen. My husband is about to retire. He’s paid into workplace pensions for over 40 years, working process and manual jobs. Not high-paid roles, just decent above-average wages for that kind of work. He stayed at one place for 18 years and another for well over 20. Over that time the companies changed schemes and pots — things he had no say in — and sorting it all out now has been a right hassle. Workplace pensions do have a big advantage: the employer pays in as well (under the rules it’s at least 3% of qualifying earnings, on top of what you put in). If you were only paying into your own private pension today, you wouldn’t automatically get that employer money. Even so, after all those years of him and his employers putting money in — amounts that could easily add up to several thousand pounds a year in total contributions — he’s looking at something that, if he’s lucky, might cover roughly half a month’s wage each month from the whole lot in retirement. A lot of ordinary workers end up in a similar position. Changing jobs means multiple pots, contributions can be at the minimum levels, and growth doesn’t always turn into the kind of income people hope for once fees, markets and inflation are taken into account. It’s doubtful many of you will build a private pension that does much better on its own. The state pension is still the safety net underneath all of that. Right now the full new state pension is around £241 a week (just over £12,500 a year), and it rises under the triple lock. For people who haven’t built huge private pots — which is most of us who aren’t in high-paid jobs — it makes a real difference. Support it and fight to keep it strong. It’s your safety net too, not just for the generation retiring now.

What us boomers didn't get. But we managed. 'Free' childcare. 15 hours 'free' childcare came into effect in 2010. Even if you don't go to work. 'Free' breakfasts at school. Came into effect in 2025. Statutory maternity pay. Came into effect in 1975. But even then, you had to have worked continuously for 2 years with the same employer. Paternity pay. Came into effect in 2003. They've never had it so good. Today's whingers.

The same MP’s who have done sweet FA to the state of our country, get 100,000, expenses and a gold plated pension think pensioners are the problem 😡

Pensioners who are on state pension only have £13,000 per annum to live on. MPs have nearly £100,000 per annum, plus expenses, help with heating, subsidized meals and alcohol in the House of Commons. They get a golden goodbye when booted out. They get gold plated pensions. And that b1tch Miriam Cates thinks it's old people who are the problem. 🙄🤬

£1.396 TRILLION. Let’s let that sink in. That’s the UK Government’s net public sector pension liability in its 2024–25 accounts. During the same year, public sector employees contributed £19.5 billion towards their pensions. These are long-term pension commitments, not an immediate bill, and the figure is after scheme assets are deducted. But with taxpayers funding public services and the Government facing enormous financial pressures, shouldn’t we be having a much more open conversation about the long-term affordability of these commitments? Who is explaining the numbers to the taxpayer?

We need serious leadership and not a circus clown. Our country is an embarrassment around the world with no borders, no growth, increasing debt and complete morons running the country. How did we sink so low? What did our grandparents fight for, they would be looking down in shame 😳

When will we hear this government talk about the serious debt crisis. All we hear about is this fictional fiscal headroom which is only about finding more money to waste. We need a serious leader who talks to the nation like adults and not children.

This is the 4th seat that has been handed to the left due to Restore splitting the vote in the last few weeks. Like I said yesterday the UK right are serial losers filled with selfish fools that will condemn us all to the leftist rule for ever. It’s all so tiresome.

🚨 THIS MAKES INTERESTING READING. When these rubber boats set off from France overloaded, the French are breaking maritime law by not intercepting them and returning them to shore. When these illegal migrants boats have sailed almost 3/4 of the way to the UK and now in British waters, the RNLI and Border Force are sent out by the Coastguard on the instructions of HM Government to intercept them . They do this because if the rubber boats are allowed to land on uk soil under their own steam then everyone on board becomes an illegal immigrant and by law MUST be detained and deported asap. However when they are picked up at sea, even if only 200 yards offshore, and in no danger whatsoever, then the RNLI and Border Force have changed the status of the illegal immigrants to “ Disembarked Persons” They are no longer illegal because the RNLI and Border Force brought them into the country, albeit only a few hundred yards. They are then eligible to claim asylum in the uk and receive all the benefits that go with that. This is done deliberately by the UK government as they WANT these illegals here. Which takes us back to the French . They won’t intercept them and bring them back to shore because if they did then the same laws would apply. They would become “ disembarked persons” and be eligible to claim asylum in France . But the French don’t want them there . They want rid of them and can Chuck them on a boat as they are already in France illegally. It’s all a game from Macron and Starmer. Rule bending to suit their agendas. These small boats are NOT AT RISK. by the time they are intercepted . They have already crossed the busiest parts of the shipping lanes. They are picked up to change their status , nothing more. Yet the RNLI are still taking donations to fund their taxi service . Defund the RNLI. There are adequate independent lifeboats around the uk to deal with real maritime emergencies. This proves both the French and British governments are complicit. They are actively allowing the facilitation of this illegal migration farce!

Without spending cuts, particularly in welfare, there will be no investment in infrastructure. If we have no investment in infrastructure there will be no growth. If we have no growth we are not getting out of this crisis. Cut regulation, cut big state and allow the private sector to grow.

Every time we put petrol into our cars at a fuel station, the government are fleecing us. And it’s not just the fuel duty and VAT at the petrol pump price. £70 of petrol at 197.9p a litre buys just 35.37 litres - a partial fill for many cars. Of that £70, £18.73 is fuel duty and £11.67 is VAT. That is £30.40, or 43%, taken by the government before the engine starts. That £70 itself was already taxed. To have £70 left after 20% income tax and 8% National Insurance, you first earned roughly £97.22. Another £27.22 was taken at source. On this single fill alone, nearly 60% of the money you worked for has already gone to the government. It does not stop there. Most drivers also pay Vehicle Excise Duty of around £200 a year simply for the right to use the road. On top of that, the average comprehensive car insurance premium is roughly £650, of which 12% Insurance Premium Tax - about £78 - goes straight to the government. Add those annual charges and the government extraction of our money continues to escalate with endless stealth taxes. You earn the money. It is taxed. You spend what remains on fuel. It is taxed again. Then you pay again every year just to keep the car legal and insured…which is taxed. For millions who need a vehicle to reach work, drive children to school or live ordinary lives, this is no longer the cost of petrol or the cost of motoring. It is a stacked system of extortionate tax charges that repeatedly takes from the same earnings. Motorists are not merely paying for fuel. They are being systematically fleeced at every stage by the government. The cost of living crisis is also a cost of excessive government taxation crisis. So @andyburnham - if you really want to help cash strapped motorists during the cost of living crisis, drastically cut fuel duty and VAT on petrol and diesel rather than just giving advice to use google maps to find the cheapest local fuel station.

The busiest job in Westminster is running after the PM with a dustpan and brush, sweeping up whatever he said five minutes earlier. Implying the 2016 referendum was illegitimate, until the entire govt comms machine scrambled to clarify what he said. Opening up a Scottish referendum, which his team had to shut down. Telling the WASPI women they deserved recompense, only to backtrack. Burnham is all over the place, making statements he clearly hasn’t thought through.
