As a writer it just confuses me that you can’t count “I loved your work so much that I downloaded it and I’m offering for others to be able to read it at a time when the archive is down and they wouldn’t be able to access it at all” as a form of appreciation and validation

tbh like, assumptions about fanfic aside, i think that having an addiction to reading stories written out of pure passion for writing and not money isn't that bad of a thing. like people are sad they cant read more, i think that's fun considering the current state of literacy
