“I miss ugly UI.” For Violet Forest (@violet_forest), web nostalgia lives in personal websites, customized pages, and the links that led from one person’s world to another. That spirit runs through her work for Kento Season 01. 🧵↓

Her Kento works are webcore.html and McBlingee.html. She wanted to make a 3D website where people could revisit the early internet, or experience a version of it for the first time. Her idea: a Windows XP landscape you could actually surf through, populated with preserved historical GIFs. "The work is the website, and the card is simply a physical bookmark to it, a link to the original."

For @ALIENQUEENART, Web Nostalgia is personal. “As a kid, I was always drawing, wanted to make cartoons, and wanted to design video games. The internet came later and gave me a way to share my work and connect with people.” Those early experiences became part of the visual language she still works with today. 🧵

That mix of nostalgia and surrealism carries into her work for Kento Season 01. For Web Nostalgia, she created three cards: Afterschool,The Hacker, and Cyber Girl. The series pulls from after-school screen time, AOL-era internet culture, hacker mythology, and the colorful optimism of Y2K.

For @michaelmicasso, web nostalgia begins with waiting for everyone at home to fall asleep so he could use the telephone line to go online. 🧵

His memories of the internet also include playing Dofus with his little sister and learning English through conversations with other players. Going online opened a way to discover artists, communities, and possibilities beyond his immediate surroundings.
