After 5 years of building @AltSchoolAfrica with @AdewaleYusuf_ and @opeawo, today I’m officially stepping down as CTO and moving into the CEO role. The goal is to provide global education to Africans at an affordable cost. Instead of going to the UK and spending £30,000 to get a degree, you can attend the same university through AltSchool for less than £15,000. Same school, same lecturers, same BSc. Equal value. Equal access. Local pricing. I’m officially launching our degree programmes on degree.altschoolafrica.com, and over the next few months, you’ll see more global universities join the AltSchool network. Welcome to the edX of Africa.

I woke up to an email from AWS: "Your AWS Account may be compromised!" As head of engineering, that's the email I have nightmares about. Someone had stolen our AWS keys and was using them to run Claude. AWS blocked over 3,000 of their requests and locked down our whole account, so we couldn't make new deployments. (The one request that got through was Opus. At least they have taste.) I checked everything else. No new users, nothing deleted. Ok. Breathe. Then OpenAI emailed. Then Stripe told us our live key was "publicly available online." Everyone on the team ran a forensic script on their laptop. My agent went through CI, our servers and git history, and checked for the npm worm going around. All clean. (Which was somehow worse.) Then we found it. We hadn't used one of the stolen keys since July, and the only place it still existed was an old Railway service that wasn't even running anymore. Three weeks ago we moved our core infra from Railway to AWS, partly because of all the downtime and partly because we were tired of running up against Railway limits. It took a few months to make the jump, and we'd started wondering if we made the wrong call. A few hours later, Railway announced it had been breached. AWS told us at 4am. Railway told everyone at 3pm. They said "rotate your keys". But they also said deployments are frozen. We'd just migrated off, so we dodged that bullet by a hair. Everyone still on Railway gets to choose: Leave your credentials exposed, or take down your servers?

See you Moonshot by @TechCabal 🤞
We’re excited to announce that Temitayo Sadique will be speaking at Moonshot 2026! Temitayo Sadique is the Managing Director of Obiex Business, the crypto and fintech infrastructure company powering stablecoin and digital asset liquidity across Africa. Over the last two years, Temitayo has led Obiex's growth from an emerging player into one of the region's most significant on/off-ramp and liquidity platforms. In 2025 alone, Obiex grew 3x year-on-year and processed $8 billion in gross transaction value. In 2026, it is on track to process $15 billion in GTV within the year. That growth came alongside expanding user numbers and new real-world stablecoin use cases, not just trading volume. Temitayo brings the perspective of an operator. He has spent more than six years inside financial services companies at every stage of the funding journey: pre-seed, Series A, Series B, and bootstrapped. Across a 9-year career in growth, he has run performance and growth programs for early and growth-stage companies across North America, EMEA, the GCC, and 17 African countries. Head to moonshot.techcabal.com to get your Moonshot 2026 ticket and join global financial operators, enterprise leaders, investors, and innovators defining Africa’s future. #MoonshotByTechCabal #CourageAndConviction #Moonshot2026

I saw the Lagos Life game trending and one thing immediately caught my attention: A lot of the public buildings didn’t really look like the real places. But recreating every building manually would take forever. So instead of cloning the game, I focused on solving that problem. I built a system that combines OpenStreetMap data, available public data, and a custom drawing MCP I built to automatically reconstruct real-world buildings in 3D. Give it a location → it gathers what it can find → generates the building. No manually coding every building one by one. Now I’m testing it by rebuilding parts of OAU 👀 This could get interesting.

Skill issue!😂 The product we’re launching next week already uses a similar interface. ..and it’s drastically going to change how people job hunt on this internet. I’m currently doing private demos, so if you’re interested in seeing something crazy, shoot me a DM!
Dev go first straighten this nav bar for you. Give you one dope rectangle. 😂

There’s something strange about loving the craft enough that work never really feels like work. Building something, chasing a problem down a rabbit hole, learning something new just because it’s interesting. Nobody has to ask me to do it, its just like listening to musicc

Email sending should always happen in the background. You could add redundancy to ensure the job always runs at least 3 times and failures should be logged properly. For email sending, you might want to add back off after each retry

This should not be a surprise; but... Breaking a problem up into a bunch of independent stories that are implemented separately by a squad of agents that do not collaborate, does not end well. If only we could get the agents to pair...

If it wasn’t for Hetzner, I probably wouldn’t have taken the plunge to move my apps onto my own infrastructure. Saving over $50/month on hosting gave me the confidence to self-host more, understand the deployment layer properly, and eventually build Slipway. I’m happy to announce that Hetzner is now sponsoring Slipway, an open-source, Sails-native deployment platform for running and managing applications on your own infrastructure. Grateful for the support, @Hetzner_Online.

I’m looking for the right remote role for the next five years. Not because I’ve stopped building independently. Because I want to experience what becomes possible when the range I’ve developed is combined with an ambitious team, global distribution, serious resources, and problems operating at scale. Today, I: • Lead Sails.js, actively maintaining the framework, shaping its direction, and growing the ecosystem around it • Build The Boring JavaScript Stack • Build Slipway, a deployment platform for Sails applications • Run Sailscasts, where I teach developers to build full-stack JavaScript applications • Publish The African Engineer, covering how technology is built across Africa • Build Hagfish, an invoicing product for creators and independent professionals • Consult with companies on engineering, architecture, products, and developer experience • Write, teach, speak, lead, and build in public I have spent years operating across software engineering, open source, infrastructure, education, media, product, community, and business. Now I want to bring that experience into the right global technology company. I’m looking for a role where I can build software, lead technical initiatives, improve developer experience, teach developers, write, speak at conferences, shape products, and help grow an ecosystem around important technology. I do my best work in an environment that is: • Remote and async-first • Low-meeting and high-trust • Flexible rather than rigidly 9-to-5 • Built around deep work and strong written communication • Focused on outcomes, quality, and impact • Compatible with responsible open-source and independent work I don’t want to perform productivity. Give me meaningful problems, clear context, ownership, talented teammates, and the freedom to deliver excellent work. Above all, I want to work on something I’ll be proud to attach my name to. I’m especially interested in Developer Experience, Open Source, AI Developer Platforms, Staff Engineering, Developer Relations Engineering, Developer Education, and Technical Ecosystem roles. If your company needs someone who can build the technology, understand the developer, explain the product, teach the market, and grow the ecosystem around it, let’s talk. Reposts appreciated.

Backend: A proper alert( to slack or pushover) when unexpected happens could also help catch bugs proactively. Frontend: additional cost may be needed for an effective solution.
There are bugs that only users will catch, no matter how many internal tests you run.

🚨 CRITICAL: Active supply chain attack on axios -- one of npm's most depended-on packages. The latest [email protected] now pulls in [email protected], a package that did not exist before today. This is a live compromise. This is textbook supply chain installer malware. axios has 100M+ weekly downloads. Every npm install pulling the latest version is potentially compromised right now. Socket AI analysis confirms this is malware. plain-crypto-js is an obfuscated dropper/loader that: • Deobfuscates embedded payloads and operational strings at runtime • Dynamically loads fs, os, and execSync to evade static analysis • Executes decoded shell commands • Stages and copies payload files into OS temp and Windows ProgramData directories • Deletes and renames artifacts post-execution to destroy forensic evidence If you use axios, pin your version immediately and audit your lockfiles. Do not upgrade.
