today's @ClassicalKDFC commuter quiz featured a piece by Clara Schumann, an accomplished pianist and composer. after her music, the DJ's bio of her was this: "a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker."
are you kidding me?
@ClassicalKDFC: DO BETTER. the insidious lesson my 11yo violinist daughter hears: sure, you can achieve some acclaim for your work, but not at the expense of being a good wife & mom at home.
@ClassicalKDFC: we listen on the way to school every morning, and have never heard a male composer described this way. "devoted husband, father, great at yard work." 🙄
hey, @NewsHour, @judywoodruff: listening to a moving tribute of those lost in CO this week. it's so important to humanize these victims — they were loved and are more than just a list of names.
curious that i didn't hear similar biographies of those lost in atlanta last week.
hey, media: "massage parlor" itself is a racist and loaded term. if you're going to write articles about the epidemic of violence against asians, maybe refrain from being culpable. #stopasianhate
funniest comment i’ve seen, in response to a news day that includes both mueller report + charges dropped against jussie smollet: "It's gonna be funny watching Fox's personalities whiplash between 'no charges means exoneration' and 'no charges means nothing' in a single segment."
this shutdown is at the feet of @senatemajldr and senate #GOP, who are punishing hard-working americans over a manufactured border "crisis" instead of reopening the gov't. do your job. enough. #trumpshutdown
movies used to be full of people smoking: shorthand for a variety of characters, emotions, behaviors & really just a given in most situations. then studies showed that cigarettes are terrible for us, we toned that shit back, and found better ways to tell our stories.
guns, next.
