I had a rule: never inline more than 5 assets per request. I made it up 😅
I saw empty icon boxes, blamed the platform, invented the limit, moved on.
There is no such limit. Nine assets on one request inline fine. The docs list one limit only, and it is about size: 15KB per file. My empty boxes were most likely a live reload bug in the dev server, not the platform.
And while I was guarding my made up rule, I walked right past the real one. Past 15KB the filter fails quietly. No error. You get an HTML comment where your styles should be, the page still looks fine, and one section just renders naked. A growing CSS file on an above the fold section is a time bomb.
I moved the big above the fold styles back to a plain blocking link tag.
If styles vanish, grep the served HTML for the filename and read what actually came out.

Stop using the blog as a database 😅
We all did this at some point. The store needs a content type that is not a product and not a post. Team members, locations, recipes, guides. And the classic reflex kicks in: create a blog, turn categories into tags, stuff the structure into the article body.
It works. Right until someone asks: "show me all entries related to this product".
What many devs still don't know: metaobjects can do this properly. Enable the web pages feature and every entry gets its own URL, its own theme template, and SEO support. A real storefront entity with typed fields instead of parsing rich text.
No blog hacks. No third party apps.
How do you handle non-product content in your themes? Still on the blog? 👇

Two stories, two worlds, both built around magic circles ✨
Witch Hat Atelier and The Rithmatist.
Same core idea (magic through drawing), totally different execution. Both magic systems are so well thought-out, almost an engineering approach.
Can't pick a favorite. Read any of them?

Noticed something cool about the new Shopify components like Account, Cart and others 🏝️
They are basically web components that work like islands in your Liquid theme. Static HTML around, interactive islands inside. Each one hydrates on its own, only when needed.
This is the Islands Architecture approach, and it fits Shopify themes really well. Less JS on the page, faster load, and you keep the simplicity of Liquid for everything else.
Feels like a smart direction for theme development 🙌

How I handle image size settings: global default + block-level override when needed. Simple but works great.

Today I finished the last pages of The Lord of the Mysteries
and what a surprise, it’s only half of the story 🥲
Usually, when a book continues, it feels great, more time in a world you love.
But this time I expected an ending, and instead I got… sadness.
Anyway, the forums say I can skip straight to chapter 903 in the next book 😅😅
