♀️ In a #workforce comprising both women and men, how do we ensure that both have a meaningful voice in the decisions that shape their professional lives? That question sits at the heart of gender equality in trade unionism. On Friday, 23 October 2026, KMPDU, in partnership with Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES), convened its inaugural Gender Workshop to advance women’s voice, leadership and accountability in trade unionism. The discussions explored barriers to women’s career progression, workplace safety and access to leadership, as well as their participation in union decision-making and collective bargaining. Representation opens the door. Influence shapes decisions. Accountability sustains progress. For KMPDU, meaningful gender equality means ensuring women have a voice in shaping the decisions that affect their professional lives and the future of their Union. More images 👉🏾 l1nk.dev/p0927rk

📈 The #GAINS we see today in healthcare were not given; they were fought for. Whenever the health of the nation is at stake, it takes a clear head to separate facts from sentiments. Time and again, those entrusted with the health docket have sought to steer the discussion through sentiment rather than substance. But sentiment cannot override evidence, and emotion cannot erase reality. Ultimately, the facts must prevail, with due regard for the lived realities of both healthcare providers and those who seek care. *Policy must serve reality, not sentiment.* Reality should NOT be forced to fit policy. It is policy that must be shaped around the realities on the ground, not political convenience.

Staff welfare is not a privilege; it is a fundamental part of delivering quality healthcare. We engaged with KUTRRH CEO Dr. Zeinab Gura, the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC), and KMPDU Nairobi Chapter leaders to push for the fast-tracking and signing of outstanding Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs). We remain committed to constructive dialogue that delivers tangible outcomes for doctors and healthcare workers. Fair working conditions, timely implementation of agreements, and respect for workers’ rights are essential to building a motivated workforce and strengthening healthcare delivery. Our position remains clear: honour agreements, protect workers’ welfare, and put patients first.

KMPDU’s governing organs, the National Advisory Council (#NAC) and the National Executive Council (#NEC), convened in Naivasha over the weekend alongside committee deliberations and the Leadership Meeting to review progress, address outstanding issues and chart the way forward for the Union. Our deliberations covered critical matters affecting doctors, including medical cover, outstanding salary adjustments, pending Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs), promotions, recognition agreements and Ebola preparedness. The NEC resolved to put 29 counties on notice over outstanding basic salary adjustments, with a decision to withdraw services from 7 November 2026 if the adjustments remain unimplemented. The Leadership Meeting brought together KMPDU officials, branch representatives and international labour leaders from Zambia, Ghana, the USA and Public Services International (PSI). The programme culminated in the State of the Union Address and a media briefing. We also noted the unanimous endorsement of our Secretary General and CEO, Dr Davji Atellah, for the Lang’ata parliamentary seat. This underscored the importance of extending advocacy for doctors’ welfare beyond the negotiating table and into Parliament, where policies shaping our profession and healthcare are debated. As National Chairman, I remain committed to safeguarding the resolutions of our governing organs and ensuring that they translate into meaningful action. Our priority is to sustain engagement with the relevant authorities and secure tangible progress on the issues affecting doctors. #KMPDU #DoctorsWelfare #DignityFairnessCare
