A piece of my late mom's art. She made it while she was a student at Kendall College of Art & Design in Grand Rapids, MI in the late 70's, when she was about 20. She had a profound sense of humor, which I believe helped her deal with her existential angst. I always understood it. She was an "old soul" even when she was very young. That's a phenomenon I've always been fascinated by, and never fully understood.

*Werner Herzog voice* it is a presumptuous cauliflower, it is a cauliflower that is spitting in the eye of God, for it to look like this... there is growth, yes, but not a growth that is rooted in life, or in vitality... no, it is something darker, more chaotic... it is a kind of narcissism. I am repulsed by it, but in a strange way, I cannot help but envy it for the sheer magnitude of its conviction in itself. it is a perversion of God's will, yes, but through its sickening nature I am reminded of my own place in the divine order of all things

He has always left himself free to doubt his gods; but (unlike the agnostic of to-day) free also to believe in them. He has always cared more for truth than for consistency. If he saw two truths that seemed to contradict each other, he would take the two truths and contradiction along with them. His spiritual sight is stereoscopic, like his physical sight: he sees two different pictures at once and yet sees all the better for that. Thus, he has always believed that there was such a thing as fate, but such a thing as free will also.

You’d be surprised to discover how many people you’re holding back by simply not moving forward. How many people’s dream job you hold the keys to by preventing yourself from manifesting an idea. The artist you’re destined to inspire if you were just to finish that painting, or the stay at home mother who points to your books for getting her through those toddler years. If you knew 20 people’s lives have yet to actualize because you haven’t finished your screenplay would you rush to the computer with more urgency? If you knew how much people needed you and your work would you be more willing to face your fear of failure?
