Peter Maher was a hero of mine as a young play-by-play broadcaster. His call was iconic. He described the game with great detail, but always kept up with the pace of play. He treated each game with huge respect and importance. One of a kind.

What a gentleman. It was such a pleasure to get to know Mr. Maher and share stories of his life and Hall of Fame broadcasting career. He was a legend and an icon, but also a friend and mentor to many, including me.
Thinking of his family, the alumni and everyone that loved him.
It is with deep regret and sadness that the Calgary Flames organization acknowledge the passing of Peter Maher, the legendary voice of the Flames.

I am shocked and saddened by Peter’s passing.
I texted with Peter yesterday and told him how cool it was to hear some of his historic calls on @QRcalgary again. He was so happy to hear that @NHLFlames games would still be broadcast on the radio.
The biggest honour of my life was being given the opportunity to follow in Peter’s footsteps, huge shoes that not I, nor anyone was ever going to be able to fill.
Not only was Peter a great broadcaster - a Hall of Famer who was THE voice of the Flames for generations of fans, he was also a great person.
My deepest condolences to Peter’s family, friends and fans.
Rest In Peace, my friend 🖤❤️

Peter Maher was also my go-to Flames stat verifier as he kept all old game sheets at his house. Before the NHL updated its historic stats, I’d ask Peter about an early 80s’ stat that I came up with from old newspaper summaries and he’d go home and check it. He was the nicest guy.

It was truly an honour to work beside him for a full season. His work as wonderful as his personality. I will miss him. RIP my condolences to his family and friends.
