We just shipped something pretty unique among post-training API providers: end-to-end custom losses.
The objective you define locally gets traced into a graph, compiled and executed efficiently on our GPUs.
Read more about the engineering behind it in our latest blog post.
Custom losses are now live on the River API.
Write your objective in PyTorch. Our Symbolic Engine compiles and runs it end-to-end across GPUs, handling efficient execution and memory usage.

Excited to share I've joined @river_ai_inc to work on personal AI!
As AI products become pervasive in everyday life, it's clear this technology needs to be private & owned by the users. I'm looking forward to a future with great products and alternatives to centralization.

For my first post, I’m sharing a letter @NVIDIA signed on why open models matter.
AI will transform every industry, power every company, and be built by every country.
Open models strengthen safety and cybersecurity, accelerate innovation and diffusion, and enable sovereignty.
The world needs both frontier closed models and frontier open models.

Scary how this is NOT obvious to everyone. For every new technology, there is a generation of uneducated people spreading misinformation, fear, and hate. May the world have fewer of them, and more like Jensen.

NVIDIA'S JENSEN HUANG GIVES AN UPDATE ON KIMI K3 AND CHINA'S OPEN SOURCE MODELS:
"American companies should absolutely be allowed to use Chinese AI models. There's a misconception that somehow there are backdoors connected to China in someway. You download the models, fine tune them, guardrail them in any way you want."
"These Chinese opensource models are excellent. The market has misunderstood the impact of DeepSeek the first time. It's misunderstood the impact of Kimi this time. Open models are great for the whole industry, there will be more usage which will require selling more Nvidia computers and building more datacenters."
"Great models lead to more usage. There is also a misunderstanding that open models are going to hurt the closed models, that is also wrong."

At humans&, we train models from the long-term impacts of their interactions with people. This requires prioritizing long-horizon multi-agent RL. We've developed and are excited to share an open-source, hardware-native 4-bit RL recipe, significantly accelerating training
Congrats on the launch! Excited to see what comes out of this group
We are incredibly excited to announce River AI. Our mission is to create personal AI that is owned and shaped by you.
Today’s best AIs are controlled by a few large corporations. We are building the alternative: a new, personal stack for AI that works entirely for you, shares your values, and operates on your terms.
Steven Kotkin is always a treat to listen to. Worth a watch.
Historian Stephen Kotkin returns to @UncKnowledge with @P_M_Robinson for another round of five questions, this time on Iran, China, Ukraine, and the future of the American republic.
Kotkin argues that America still possesses unmatched strengths—economic, technological, military, and cultural—but warns that self-inflicted political dysfunction could squander them. He dissects Trump's Iran strategy, explains why China wants Taiwan "for free," argues that Ukraine has already won the sovereignty war against Russia, and delivers a powerful defense of America's founding ideals at a moment when both authoritarian regimes abroad and political extremism at home are testing them.
Sharp, provocative, and deeply informed, this is classic Kotkin: history as a guide to the geopolitical storms of the present. Watch the full conversation here:

GPT5 is substantially better at coding imo – first model I've used that seems competent at Rust

We released two open-weight reasoning models—gpt-oss-120b and gpt-oss-20b—under an Apache 2.0 license.
Developed with open-source community feedback, these models deliver meaningful advancements in both reasoning capabilities & safety.

Little things like this quickly add up to a huge productivity boost. I needed a quick linux sandbox for Rust development – an hour of likely trial and error took 2 minutes: chatgpt.com/share/97746695-7…

Little known fact: Many of OpenAI’s key results, including the Dota 2 bot and the pre-training of GPT-4, are thanks to the brilliant Jakub Pachocki @merettm
