My wife teaches English at a high school in Japan. Last week, she gave her students a writing prompt: "If you could be American for one day, what would you do?" She read me the answers at dinner. She had to stop three times because she was laughing too hard. "Own a pickup truck. I don't need a truck. I just want to say, 'Don't worry, I'll grab the truck.'" "Have a garage. Not for a car. For 'stuff.'" "Buy 48 rolls of toilet paper at Costco. I live with my parents. I want them anyway." "Get a free refill. Then another one. Then another one. Until they ask me to leave. They won't ask me to leave." "Water my lawn at 6 a.m. in a bathrobe and wave at my neighbor." "Call my teacher 'dude.'" (My wife underlined this one. Twice.) "Hang a flag on my house for no reason. Just because it's Tuesday." And a lot of them wrote some version of this: "Tell my dad I love him. Out loud. At the dinner table." Then she had the class vote for the best answer. The winner wasn't funny. It came from the funniest kid in the class. The truck kid. "Stand up when the anthem plays, put my hand on my heart, and look around and see everybody else doing it too." My wife asked him why he picked that one. He shrugged. "Because then you're never proud alone."

Just for the record DoJ announced for last year 100,000 fewer rapes 170,000 fewer robberies 500,000 fewer burglaries 700,000 fewer violent crimes Than when Trump took office. ------------------ Even supposing, hypothetically, that Trump is a Russian spy or controlled by the Elders of Zion, so what? If the secret conspiracy of global Judaism and Soviet operatives can reduce crime to this degree nationwide, such a conspiracy benefits the USA. Even supposing, hypothetically, the Trump is a secretly a raging anti-semitic KKK racist, so what? A low crime rate benefits and blesses the poor and the minorities. Even supposing, hypothetically, that Barack Obama has better taste in architectural design than Trump.... No, never mind. I won't bother finishing that sentence.

uNEKOrnucopia(cat) / argentiNE (CONcEaled) COiNs [HD] I've had this pun on my list for a while, altough it was supposed to be more "magical" - But it thought this pragmatical procedure worked better as dungeon crawling (Maybe I should have made the coins shinier) #indiecomics

I love it when people come to flip out at my books that aren't written by AI because they want to flip out about AI. Notice it's never a "Verified Purchase." These people can't read. That's why they're mad.

PREview / PRE-PRoduction / (Work-In-) PRogREss / PRocEss sKETch [HD] Another Halloween pic,a bit less "intense" that the previous one - More in my usual cute/funny mode, including the magic and tech thing (Note the mike... which also likes like a catbell) #rkgk #indiecomics

Kittycat kids up a CAbIn TrEE house / Feline cat flet [HD] It was time for a new pic of my kitty kids, and combining the "cat up a tree" cliche with homely cats results in a tree house,a classic trope in children's literature (Also, they might be elf changelings...) #indiecomics

That's funny. I thought the villain of Dune was the family of murderous, incestuous, rapist, pedophiles and that Paul's actions were the only way to keep one of them from being crowned Padishah Emperor, which would have lead to the extinction of humanty. But hey! What do I know? 🤷‍♂️
Paul Atreides might be the real villain of Dune, and people aren’t ready for that conversation. Dune 1 & 2 have you rooting for him, only for you to realise he’s becoming the very thing he claims to be fighting. The Fremen see a messiah. Paul sees an opportunity. He didn’t just fulfil the prophecy. He used it to take control. So be honest: was Paul ever the hero, or were we just manipulated into rooting for a villain? 👀

The biggest mistake tourists make in Japan is dragging a fifty-pound suitcase up and down subway stairs. Watch how Japanese travelers board the bullet train. They walk on with a cup of green tea, a small shoulder bag, and both hands free. Where is their luggage? It is already in the next city, waiting for them. In Japan, the system is called Takkyubin, recognizable everywhere by a logo of a mother black cat carrying her kitten gently in her mouth. When you check out of your hotel in Tokyo at eight in the morning, you hand your heavy suitcase to the front desk, fill out a tiny slip, and pay about twenty dollars. You can even send it straight from the corner convenience store. Then you spend the entire day wandering through mountain temples or eating street food with nothing on your back. When you walk into your traditional inn in Kyoto that evening, your suitcase is already standing neatly in your room, wiped clean, with the handle turned toward you. In fifty years of handling millions of bags a year, lost luggage is virtually unheard of. A society runs smoothly when you can hand your belongings to a stranger at a convenience store and know they will beat you to your hotel.

Friends, I could really use some help. A large group of Amish builders from Ohio are spending the next FIVE MONTHS fixing homes damaged by Hurricane Helene for FREE in Western North Carolina and South Carolina. There's just one problem... the Amish don't drive, so they need drivers to take them back and forth to job sites and drop off trailers (if you have a truck). I have already volunteered to help, but we need more volunteers. If you feel led and are in the area, there's a sign up sheet in the comments. You'll get free breakfast and free dinner too + you'll get to meet some of the heroes who have been working here to rebuild.
