🔘 Holness says he had to take action after travel bill amid hurricane hurt
Prime Minister Andrew Holness has provided further detail on the decision to impose a travel ban on non-essential official overseas travel. The ban, now in effect will remain until March 31, 2027.
▫️Holness said he had to send a very strong signal after an official travel bill was brought to his attention. He did not reveal the price tag or the delegation involved.
▫️Speaking at a press conference at Jamaica House today, Holness said, customarily, ministries try to use unspent money from their budgets near year end, but now, he wants them to save where possible so that the money can be used for victims of Hurricane Melissa.
▫️The Prime Minister said the Labour Ministry has indicated that it needs $9.5 billion more to assist 50,000 people affected by the hurricane that struck Jamaica one year ago.

Dancehall superstar Squash has officially been released from the federal prison in FCI Oakdale, Louisiana, after spending a sentence of 11 months.
The artist had previously pleaded guilty to being an undocumented/alien individual in possession of a firearm following a February 2025 traffic stop in Miami.
Though he was originally handed a 27-month sentence, multiple sentence reductions earned through federal credits under the First Step Act shaved his active prison time down to less than a year.
Squash is now in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). He faces an active immigration detainer and potential deportation proceedings.
