Our incredible Associate Principals for Instruction and Instructional Coordinators created and facilitated a workshop today about Motivating Learners. Thanks to them and the participants for the deep conversations, reflections, and action planning! @llichtman @creativeisa
And somehow my first baby is now in high school. How did that happen so fast?!
I’m so excited for her future!
To ensure our new transfer students feel a sense of belonging in our school, the @DownersNorth team created a welcome breakfast led by students. Thanks to @llichtman @emoore3 and Scott Gollan for organizing our student leaders! It was a wonderful experience!

I had a great time facilitating global learning with educators last summer! Our adventure expanded worldviews and found new possibilities in schools for belonging and metrics-driven equity & excellence work. I'm so happy these educators joined us!
I'm so happy to share our New Zealand 2023 tour video! It was an amazing and transformative experience for all of our participants. Stay tuned for our next tour date!

This summer was wonderful connecting on a deeper level with our 52-week staff. This week our school year staff returned. I had a fantastic 3 days learning with and reconnecting with so many. Once the students return, we’ll be back to full energy in our buildings! Welcome Back!
Welcome to our new faculty! I was so happy meeting you all today. And your mentor committee and APIs made the day so fun! We’re so thrilled you chose us!
This summer we continued our family tradition immersing ourselves in different cultures to learn global competence skills. Portugal, Gibraltar, Spain, France, Monaco, Italy, Vatican, Germany, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, and Austria. So thankful for my time with my family!
A year later, our video from our epic family trip back to NZ is now posted. It's an amazing place!

Stop by @DownersNorth today to hear from our paraprofessionals about their experiences… and then apply for one of our @Dist_99 open paraprofessional positions. We’re here until 2pm. Looking forward to meeting our future staff! @DownersSouth
I’ve been learning the German language for 5 yrs at my local German language school. Since I had a little time this summer, I took a 2 week intensive language course in Munich. It’s been an intense, but fulfilling learning experience! Morning class followed by social activities.
Our 3rd visit was to a place very special to us. Our daughter attended Grey Lynn School when we lived in NZ. Our group visited them to look for ideas on celebrating diversity, creating environments of belonging, and utilizing collaborative learning spaces to their full potential.
Our 2nd school visit was to Albany Senior High School where they run unique, student-centered courses, a block schedule, and impact projects. Each student chooses a deep inquiry project to learn something new or refine a skill while helping to solve a local issue.
Thanks to @ClaireAmosNZ for hosting us! The impact projects were very inspiring!
The school was built around a specific pedagogical framework that shares power with students and gives them a lot of choice around their learning journey.
Our 1st visit was to Tautoro School. My friend, Principal Simeon, guided us around the school to show us the amazing work of students and staff. Tautoro School is an excellent example of a school celebrating family culture while preparing every student for their own future.
Before schools visits, we had to understand NZ history and culture. Prior to traveling, we read and watched videos about NZ’s history. This learning was topped up with our visit to the Waitangi Treaty Grounds. Understanding the past helped us to better understand the present.
