A year of building. Launch result: about +$25 and 200 downloads.
Same day, one image post sent 33,000 people to his site. (@jackfriks shared both.)
The build isn't the launch. The audience is.
Line up who shows up in your first hour before you pick a date. Who's on your list?
Most Product Hunt launches don’t fail on launch day.
They fail in the 2–3 weeks before — fuzzy positioning, undrafted first comment, nobody lined up.
Treat prep like part of the product, not a last-minute scramble.
Free PH checklist on LaunchPact (no fluff).
hi 👋
looking to connect with people actively building and shipping, especially with a Product Hunt launch coming up:
- founders
- makers prepping a launch
- indie hackers
- builders
- designers
drop a comment, show me what you're working on, let's connect!
358 products launched on @nicklaunches' board in October.
151 went freemium.
122 are completely free.
Only 30 charge a subscription.
25 charge once.
Pricing is a launch asset. Settle it before launch day and put it in your maker first comment.
What are you launching with?
hi 👋
I'm looking to connect with people who are actively building and shipping.
If you are a:
- founder
- builder
- indie hacker
- engineer
- designer
drop a comment, show me what you're working on, and let's connect 👇
'Most founders start about three weeks too late' is the whole post.
What a month out buys you on Product Hunt: a Coming Soon page collecting followers, a maker first comment written calm, and real users who know the exact hour to show up.
Launching to zero is hard mode.
Founders ask me how to launch all the time, so here's roughly how I think about it, from running launches for AI companies like Pika.
Start about a month out. Launches that feel spontaneous almost never are. You need time for the waitlist, the assets, the people who'll share it on day one, and the press.
Build the waitlist first. Launching to zero is sooooo much harder than launching to people who already raised their hand.
Make the video fun and fast. A polished explainer where the founder talks for 90 seconds usually loses to a fast cut that just shows the product doing something cool. The Pika launch video didn't have anyone talking in it at all, and some of the best launch videos I've seen cost almost nothing.
Pick your channels on purpose. X, Product Hunt and press all behave differently, and the founder's own account usually matters more than the company's.
If it doesn't pop, relaunch. A new version is a second shot at going viral, and most companies waste it by shipping it like a changelog.
None of this is rocket science. It just takes a lot more prep than people expect, and most founders start about three weeks too late.
39,291 launches in October across Product Hunt, GitHub, Hacker News and YC (count by @buildwithdk):
27% AI native
Tuesday busiest, Sunday quietest
biggest niche: AI video tools (371 launches)
Pick your PH day on purpose. Then prep like the day doesn't matter.

26,652 Product Hunt listings in 4 weeks (count by @buildwithdk):
median: 1 upvote
10+ upvotes = top 4%
top 1% took 36% of all upvotes
The gap isn't luck. It's prep: a Coming Soon page, a maker first comment, people who show up in the first hour.
Launch day. You get ONE:
50 upvotes from people who'll never open your product,
or 5 real users who comment what they actually use it for.
Which one are you taking?
3 honest Product Hunt recaps this week:
3 upvotes, 0 signups
1 point, not featured, 0 sales
21 upvotes, 0 launch sales
Same lesson: launch day doesn't bring the audience. You do.
Prep weeks out - Coming Soon page, maker first comment, people ready for the first hour.
Launch on Product Hunt and someone will offer you hundreds of "guaranteed" upvotes within hours.
Skip it. Put that energy into launch prep:
a Coming Soon page up early
your maker first comment drafted
real supporters who know when to show up for the first hour
Every PH launch gets these DMs within hours.
Bought votes are easy to spot: new accounts, no comments, all in one burst. PH filters them, and your rank can drop.
What moves a launch: a maker comment ready, a Coming Soon page, and real users showing up in hour one.
We launched LemMeBuyIt on Product Hunt yesterday.
Within HOURS, people were offering to sell us hundreds of fake upvotes and guaranteed rankings.

Launch day content is the easy dopamine.
The unsexy work is a Coming Soon page, a maker first comment ready, and people who already said they'll show up in hour one.
If anything compounds after day 0, you prepared for it.
because there are so many saas tools right now the bar for marketing has never been lower
most founders just slap together an opus 5.5 launch video slop, post it once, and call it marketing for the month
if you do literally anything that compounds after launch day you are already ahead of 95% of the market
Most Product Hunt launches don't die on launch day.
They die at day -7.
No Coming Soon page.
No maker first comment drafted.
Nobody lined up who will actually show up in the first 2 hours.
We tracked 1,443 featured launches:
solo makers hit top 5 at 13.5%.
Teams of 4+ hit it at 55%.
The gap isn't product quality.
It's whether anyone shows up early.
Launch prep is the product.
The #2 is great, but the line that got me was “three months later, I’m in constant contact with these founders.”
That’s exactly what i hoped LaunchPact would be. Thank you for showing up for so many founders, for all the feedback along the way, and for writing this up, Brent 🙏
Just published a new post on my personal blog if any of you are interested.

Happy Monday, what did you do over the weekend?
I spent time building a MVP for a fun project I have been thinking about for a while now.
