What the hell are we doing…
On a 10 hour road trip at 70mph you could save 40 minutes and arrive in 9h 20m by driving 75mph. Your theory holds up for short trips. But I’ll take every 15 min I can get on drives over 2-3hrs. 80 vs 70 and you gain another 40 min arriving in 8h 40m. Vroom vroom.

Hot take. The way the PIP works should be how the tour business model is funded. I think they’ve got it backwards. Old school marketing, TV, and sponsorships will never be able to compete with modern marketing and the influencer game. ie Joe Rogan vs CNN.
Touring full-time may be best for you. Leaving your current Church may also be best. But leaving your Church to go tour might not be the only option you have. Seeking wisdom from family, people in both fields, and close friends always yields results worth listening too.
3. A financial shift happened that is allowing the Church Production Leader to be a career-long occupation. Covid’s demand on technology and the current job market have created fair and above market salaries that allow these roles to be more than a 20 something’s 3-year job.
2. Every church you’ve dreamed of working at is hiring. If you’re leaving your church healthy there are other great churches that need you. I believe 99% of the THOUSANDS of churches with production staff are still dream jobs for us. Don’t throw the baby out with the bath water.
1. It’s very hard to travel 200 days a year (that’s what it will take to make a reasonable income for most) and keep healthy relationships, mental health, and physical health. The few that have made a career touring and stayed healthy know it’s possible, but it’s rare and hard.
A lot of Church tech staff are leaving their jobs to pursue touring full time. I think this is a smart move for some and a mistake for most. Your reasons for leaving might be good, but looking for other Church jobs first is a wiser choice. Here are 3 reasons why.
