Another disappointing exit from the World Cup for the US. Who cares? America can now go back to being world champions of sports nobody else plays. 😃😃😃. #fifaworldcup
“It is almost always the few at the top who find the distance between us useful and who have learned that a frightened, divided public is easier to drive.”

I wrote a memoir, The Bootle Boy. Leading character is Rupert Murdoch. I worked with Rupert 50 years and, love or hate him, he’s an authentic colossus. Complicated, too. As I write “He could be hands-off or autocratic charming or irascible forgiving or fierce and sometimes just a comprehensive pain” More excerpts leshintonblog.wordpress.com Buy mybook.to/TheBootleBoy
Nothing like opening a boxful of new books. An updated version of my memoir The Bootle Boy. It’s about scrambling to the heights of one of the world's mightiest media empires & the demonic drive of its founder -- Rupert Murdoch. Out now.

“A whole civilization will die tonight” sounds uncomfortably like what the Oracle at Delphi told Croesus of Lydia before he attacked Persia. If we really are committed to the destruction of an entire civilization then we have lost our own.

It was said of Winston #Churchill that he mobilized the English language and sent it into #battle. Trump’s trick with the mother tongue is to douse it in gasoline, set it on fire and drop it in a dumpster in the middle of his own parade ground. #WSJ

Even contemptible men don’t deserve mob justice. Ex-Prince Andrew, once a friend of Jeffrey Epstein, falls victim to a trans-Atlantic moral panic, writes @gerardtbaker

Interesting, media that most disapproves of Murdoch is giving this @gabrielsherman book so much attention. It’s only 185 pages of text (plus copious Notes, etc) & lifts hugely from other books, including one of mine. What newspapers call a “clips job”. Pretty slender for £25
Many Murdoch narratives focus on the story of Fox News and Donald Trump, where the dumpster fire really begins to light up the modern sky. But to understand the family’s empire, we might examine the Britain that Rupert Murdoch ravaged in earlier days. newyorkermag.visitlink.me/G0…

‘Studying the Murdochs’ doing much heavy lifting. Interestingly some books credited were also, if better disguised, cuttings jobs. Nothing against that but for £25 expect some shoe leather.
Actually 185 pages of text plus copious Notes, Acknowledgements & Index. Pretty slender for a book selling in the UK for £25. Sherman gives credit to the MANY books he relies on, some decades old. In newspaper terms it’s largely a “clips job” plus oft repeated Murdoch hostility
Out tomorrow: “Bonfire of the Murdochs” — the real succession story of the Murdoch empire (already a #1 best-seller).
Gabe Sherman has been studying the Murdochs for nearly 20 years, and somehow managed to fit their story in 256 pages.

Didn’t especially like Bad Bunny though I suspect I’m not his demographic. But why does every difference of opinion in this country have to be instantly escalated into an existential crisis of the soul of America? The SB Half Time show really isn’t the Missouri Compromise #SBLX
