Minnesota election official just went on Somali TV to explain how to vote with no ID. Melanie Hezlip, Voter Outreach Director for the Secretary of State’s office, appeared on Somali TV of Minnesota and told viewers that if they’re already registered, “you don’t need to bring anything with you.” She then walked through same-day registration options, including a Minnesota state ID, phone/TV/internet bills (even electronic ones), and the state’s vouching system—where one registered voter can vouch for up to eight others. Minnesota famously issues driver’s licenses and IDs to non-citizens under the 2023 “Driver’s Licenses for All” law. Those IDs can be used for same-day registration while the person simply affirms citizenship under penalty of perjury. No routine proof of citizenship is required at the polls for registered voters. This comes in a state still dealing with massive fraud scandals tied to Somali-linked organizations. The TV host has previously been named in court documents related to the Feeding Our Future case. Election integrity is apparently optional in Minnesota, especially when the message is tailored for a specific community.
