A fantastic morning at @braidhurst. P7 confidently delivered presentations about the benefits of reading for enjoyment and spent some time exploring the library. Thank you to Mrs Anderson, Mrs Scott, Miss Galloway and the S1 Literacy Ambassadors.

Thank you for having me. It was a pleasure to visit your library and meet your very attentive pupils.
Some pics from our S2 author visit from @Will_Sutcliffe8 as part of our #braidhurstreadingschool work. Great behaviour from pupils who listened attentively to Will speak about a very important subject - the climate crisis & read from his book 'The Summer We Turned Green'
Delighted to welcome into school this morning @Will_Sutcliffe8 for an exciting author visit with S2. This is part of our #braidhurstreadingschool journey to encourage pupils to read for pleasure.

If you want a literate/creative nation, then you have to invest in librarians, books, and the physical space. Functioning and well-stocked school libraries will be only for those schools with money = private schools. It's a total shame.

for pupils who need a quiet place to retreat to for a while. I was sad to hear that after one librarian is to retire, that no-one is going to be hired to fill their shoes and that the school library service is being reviewed. Cuts are likely to be made of staff and services.

I spent yesterday in North Lanarkshire at two high schools. The librarians were my kind hosts and I saw first hand how important their roles are in maintaining the library space, choosing appropriate stock, guiding pupils to books they might not have chosen, providing a space
Some pics from yesterday's brilliant #readtosucceed #braidhurstreadingschool S1 author visit from @MaisieWrites. Each pupil left the session inspired & passionate about storytelling and books. Thank you @LRCMS_NLC & of course the fantastic Maisie!
Very excited to have our #readtosucceed #braidhurstreadingschool S1 author visit this morning from @maisiewrites. A huge thank you to @NLCLearningHub @LRCMS_NLC for organising this fantastic event along side the book gifting #readingmatters #schoollibrariesmatter
The winning group from Muir St PS along with the S1 literacy ambassadors from today's #braidhurstreadingschool transition visit exploring 'Why We Should Read'. A huge well done to all of the pupils who participated.
This week we have Muir St PS visiting for their 2nd #braidhurstreadingschool 'Why Should We Read' transition visit. Can't wait to see their posters & hear their thoughts on reading for pleasure.
Had the BEST conversation with a new ESOL pupil who asked how much it cost to borrow a book. I smiled & said there was no cost, that this was one of the best parts of a library - everything is free, with no obligation to spend any money. A world of knowledge/escapism for no cost.
A huge part of our #braidhurstreadingschool work is to encourage our entire school community to read. Feedback from our family surveys revealed that info on our local libraries would support this aim. N.B opening times are 10am-4pm. Please follow the link: youtu.be/ZVM53uIhnEA
Thank you to @Christopher_NLC & @LibrariesNL for this advert about Motherwell Library, how our families can join the library & the available services. N.B opening times are 10am-4pm. Please follow link: youtu.be/ZVM53uIhnEA
