🚨 NEW: Five men have only just been been charged over a 2023 stunt that saw a hearse driven onto a football pitch during a match.
• Northumbria Police say the case is part of a wider summer 2023 investigation covering the pitch invasion, criminal damage in Dunston and Byker, and a stolen vehicle in Durham.
• On 21 July 2023 a hearse and a Subaru were driven onto the pitch at half-time in a Dunston UTS v Gateshead friendly at UTS Stadium. Men in balaclavas threw leaflets, left the hearse on the grass and fled in the Subaru. The referee abandoned the game at 1-1. Police said at the time nobody was injured.
• All five are due at Sunderland and South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court this week. They have not yet entered pleas
