Nah. Directing > Writing, generally speaking. Without Nolan or Del Toro at the helm directing, their films would likely be incredibly mediocre or even cringe (TDK/Hellboy etc). This is also why every adaptation of Seven Samurai sucks ass in comparison to Kurosawa.
