Helen Zille wants to turn Sandton into another Cape Town, importing wealthy white property buyers into an already inflated property market, driving up prices and pushing black South Africans further out of areas they should also have access to. This is the same pattern of racialised economic exclusion that has defined Cape Town’s property landscape.
Her mandate has always been preservation of privilege through property ownership, gentrification and economic displacement.

the ANC is so perfect on paper. its founding ideals are in the freedom charter. its legacy shaped by luthuli, mandela and sisulu. its values rooted in a history of liberation. all of that hollowed out by greed. we have one of the most progressive constitutions in the world, one of the most compelling liberation histories in the world but a political class that has failed to live up to either. the real tragedy.
