Exactly why in speaking to @MyriamFrancoisC, I said that I refuse to call Jacob Coxon a "whistleblower." Because since when do you have your top execs be like "yes we agree with this whistleblower" 🙄 That's not how whistleblowers are treated. xitter.cf/MyriamFrancoisC/status…
Are we on the verge of an AI apocalypse, or is Silicon Valley using doomsday fears to distract us from the damage AI is already doing? Tech insiders and Big Tech CEOs warn that superintelligence could wipe out humanity. Meanwhile, AI is already fuelling warfare and environmental destruction, with zero accountability. If the very people warning us about AI's dangers also stand to profit from it, is existential doom a genuine warning or the ultimate marketing strategy? This week on The Tea, we're joined by Dr Timnit Gebru, former co-lead of Google's Ethical AI team and a leading researcher in AI safety. Timnit warned about the dangers of large language models years before the current AI boom. In this interview, she exposes the motives and the ideology behind Silicon Valley's apocalyptic predictions Watch here: youtu.be/3EY2QDfp2O4?si=nNO7…

She's spot on in describing why these CEOs agreed with Coxon (vs how they treated people like me or @mer__edith). "Their valuations will depend on how sophisticated - and, in the case of AI weapons systems, how lethal - their models are." equator.org/articles/arundha…

I had to take a little break to rest my eyes & voice after recording the audio for my upcoming book (which you can preorder at simonandschuster.com/books/D…). So it took me a while to get to the indomitable Arundhati Roy''s essay, Apocalypse Now and Then (H/t) @ambaonadventure. 🧵

Exactly. We have companies that have unleashed malware and viruses world wide, whose CEOs should be arrested and prosecuted, who have somehow been able to change this crime into a marketing gimmick instead.
Things are moving so fast that everyone seems to have completely missed how insane it is that AI companies have been allowed to unleash agentic AI products with no regulatory guidelines.

Absolutely hysterical and dangerous misinformation being spread by accounts now falsely attributing any security incident to "AI agent swarms." This is absolutely not true.
This is the most serious 48 hours in cybersecurity history. "Black October" they're calling it It seems every *hour* there's a new incident, that in a typical year, would be one of the biggest incidents of the *entire year* SUMMARY OF THE LAST 48 HOURS: YEAR-LEVEL INCIDENTS (In a typical year, these would be among the biggest incidents of the year): 1. PHP2Shell: a hole in the software behind ~70% of websites. Governments took sites offline. 2. eMudhra: the master keys that prove websites are real were cracked. One was the number 4. 3. California: data on every public school student since 2023 stolen, including disability status 4. Railway: hackers stole customers' secret keys from a hosting platform used by millions of developers 5. Zeabur: 321,810 accounts breached. The company is shutting down. 6. LiteLLM: an AI tool downloaded 3.4 million times a day was poisoned with a password stealer 7. GitLab: a 10-out-of-10 severity hole in every version since 2014 8. Cairn: criminals used an AI hacking tool to break into 100+ companies 9. Ahold Delhaize: hackers knocked the owner of Food Lion and Stop & Shop offline 10. Onamae: malware planted on up to 26,739 customer servers in Japan MONTH-LEVEL INCIDENTS (In a typical month, these would be among the biggest incidents): 11. Signal: a bug could leave your mic and camera on after you hang up 12. NGINX: 3 critical holes in software running ~1/3 of websites 13. HTTP/3: a single connection can crash 7 of the 10 web server types tested 14. Plex: hackers breaking into home media servers 15. SafePay ransomware: FBI warns it has hit 600+ critical infrastructure organizations 16. Palo Alto: ransomware gangs breaking in through company firewalls 17.

In the bill, (i) notes "expert-level" to exclude AI outputting false and unreliable information, which is actually what would cause a catastrophic accident if deployed in critical systems. B (ii) and B(iii) legitimise such faulty uses. Existing thresholds already exist for (ii)!

"The rich want war, the youth want a future!" That’s the chant outside the Andreas high school in Berlin, blockaded by its own students since 8am. Europe’s militarisation has a new opponent: the generation it plans to send.
Kleinere Klassen! Unterstützung der Lehrkräfte!“

When Jack Clark, cofounder of Anthropic & their policy guy called my paper a “cognitive mind virus” some of you jumped in on the attack while too gullible to see what they were doing. Some of you are bought out by such corporations. But the rest of y’all are too easy to fool.

Incredible that it's people talking about the Cookie Monster (aka "superintelligence") telling the rest of us to have "scientific" & "falsifiable" arguments. We've documented the origins of these fictional delusions & their cults in peer reviewed academic papers...
Replying to @MelMitchell1
I was hoping to read one sentence where he would provide an actual scientific and falsifiable argument, but nope!

Nick “Blacks are more stupid than whites” Bostrom, a eugenicist worried about dysgenic (opposite of eugenic) pressures, ie those of us “more stupid than whites” reproducing too much, was hiding in his hellhole & is now getting revived. Nothing brings accountability to these vile men.
FULL INTERVIEW: Nick Bostrom says a long pause on AI could cost more lives than it saves. If superintelligence can cure aging, every year of waiting has a death toll. In his words, "we are just dying in the meantime." Nick Bostrom founded Oxford's Future of Humanity Institute and wrote Superintelligence and Deep Utopia. He joined @theojaffee and @schisofrenia to break down AI consciousness, why a badly done pause could backfire, and why we've only explored the janitor's closet of what minds can be: 01:17 Trump calling AI superintelligence 05:16 the Hugging Face incident and instrumental convergence 08:28 why the AI company is the first target for a misaligned AI 09:31 catching a schemer before it learns to hide 11:06 why AI timing is like surgery for a terminal condition 19:00 why he's wary of pausing AI 25:33 why the US sits at the negative extreme on AI 27:09 apes, bananas, and the janitor's closet 31:13 where he disagrees with Robin Hanson's Age of Em 33:39 whether current models are conscious 37:12 why humans are barely conscious 39:56 open source models and DNA synthesis as the choke point 43:05 what COVID teaches about pauses 46:28 why AI can't do original philosophy yet 49:37 building a superintelligence that's a good cosmic citizen
