i left YCSE with a profound admiration for amanda seyfried as a shrewd reader of people, both as an actor, and as a woman navigating a career field where somewhere in every job, before and behind every deal, there are predators, vultures, and bloodsuckers.
Amanda Seyfried says she turned down Guardians of the Galaxy because she thought a talking tree and raccoon in space would ruin her career
"I think turning down Guardians of the Galaxy was just I mean, itās it was so obvious to me at the time. Iām like, this is not going to be a hit. Like theyāre talking, the tree and the raccoon are talking to each other. Theyāre in space. And also theyāre all in space. Yeah. And I was just like I I this will ruin my career if this is bad. And thereās a high chance that this could be bad"
"I mean, obviously I was wrong. But I still donāt take back that decision. I made it for myself. I made it for my my family that I knew I wanted to have. And I and I just donāt want to spend all the time in the makeup trailer"
"I just I I I I donāt I canāt sit still anyway. Um and I really donāt like stunts and I donāt like heights and I donāt like pretending the entire world. I need something to hold on to"
"Not saying itās not. Itās just not for me"

To me, You Can See Everything is a āyes, andā film in a āyes, butā world, where we are collectively struggling to hold two ostensibly contradictory ideas at the same time.

She was giving patients fake lab results, fuck her feelings hit the music
I think Nathan Fielder did a really good job with You Can See Everything. Especially in showing how unwilling Amanda Seyfried was to acknowledge her own role in potentially harming another person. He had everyone looking at one another and questioning everyone elseās intentions, while seemingly being completely unwilling to examine their own behavior. I thought Amandaās resistance to doing that was especially revealing
I also obviously think Billy is terrible. I think heās cruel and exploitative. Iāve seen Elizabethās tweets for years and thought they were her. Finding out theyāre his was jarring and sad.
But as much as I dislike Billy, I think he made a very good point. Why would he care what Amanda thinks? Sheās an actress who has profited from portraying his wife as a bizarre and dishonest and manipulative freak to an audience that is largely voyeuristic, incredibly binary in their moral thinking, and seemingly unable to separate fiction from reality
I donāt think that Amanda needed to defend Elizabeth or excuse anything sheās done but I do think itās bizarre how unwilling she seemed to consider that she might have contributed to another personās suffering

So we all agree that Billy Evans asked Elizabeth Holmes to āseduceā Nathan Fielder before they allowed him and the film crew into their home right? #YouCanSeeEverything
he runs his wifeās Twitter account and uses it constantly (before the film came out)⦠are we genuinely surprisedā¦

You Can See Everything feels like the definitive modern documentary of either sociopathy or grand delusion, depending on who you ask. Shamelessly bizarre, ruthlessly compelling, and surprisingly earnest in grappling with its own struggles with objectivity in a post-truth world.
