I keep seeing people say “tow the line” and I’m always like “maybe that’s actually what it is?” NOPE! Whatever. Glad I was right initially, I guess. “Toe the line” makes tons more sense than “tow” when you consider similar idioms, too…

(Can’t reply) I mean, “family values” is a dogwhistle. “Family values” also had a non-political meaning at some point, I’m sure, but it’s a dogwhistle nonetheless. A dogwhistle needs context. It’s not like a sleeper agent thing, it doesn’t have to be meaningful in other contexts.

Something (a phrase, word, symbol/icon, metaphor, etc.) is a dogwhistle if it’s meant to be recognizable to the target group/supporters without being noticed by the opposition. It’s just a specialized form of rhetoric.

Lots of cats hunt just for the hell of it. Colony cats hunt for food but outdoor/roaming cats tend to hunt for fun. It’s just one of the many reasons why people should keep them indoors

and i’m not really into herpetology but i AM into latin and greek roots… and “herp” means “creep”. Herpetology is BASICALLY the study of “creeping crawlies” which I find pretty funny.

People are talking about rabies but i’d be more concerned about cat scratch fever when considering it just being a kitten if it wasn’t acting odd, and how rare rabies are in urban/suburban cats. Like yeah rabies is terrifying but with a cat scratch it’s not THE prevailing concern

im saying this as someone with hypochondria who, if i got scratched by a stray cat, i would think i’m dying. I’m just applying logic to it. Again, yes, rabies is always a concern but with a normal-acting kitten scratching you it’s not likely. If anything consult a doc
