The North Tower of the World Trade Center collapses. The Marriot Hotel, a separate building located at the base of the tower, is also destroyed. A 40-story portion of the building stands for several seconds after the collapse, then falls. Perhaps 20,000 people are dead.

THE SOUTH TOWER OF THE WORLD TRADE CENTER HAS COMPLETELY COLLAPSED. The entire building, all 110 floors, has pancaked into the ground. Massive clouds of pulverized concrete and gypsum rush through the streets, covering tens of thousands of people in dust and obscuring Lower Manhattan altogether. Father Mychal Judge, chaplain to the FDNY, is struck by fallen debris and dies instantly. He is the first confirmed and identified death today, but there must be tens of thousands of dead.

Civilian stringers have broken through the FDNY cordon and are filming in the World Trade Center Plaza, despite great danger to their lives. Meanwhile, Billy Joel’s “She’s Always a Woman to Me” plays eerily over the speaker.

A giant fireball has consumed the World Trade Center complex. United Flight 175, a fully-fueled Boeing 767, has struck the building deliberately. Parts of the engine flew out the east side of the building and have landed six blocks away. The tower physically shifted at least five feet. Hundreds of people must be dead - and hundreds of millions watched their deaths on live TV. This is not an accident.

A SECOND PLANE HAS HIT THE SECOND TOWER - AMERICA IS UNDER ATTACK

Astoundingly, despite this morning’s chaotic events, most of the stores in the mall under the World Trade Center are choosing to stay open. Here is a receipt for two magnets bought three minutes ago, with the North Tower burning just above.
