Portfolio Committee on Police Chairperson Ian Cameron Demands Ramaphosa Ends Suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu’s Pay After Revealing R3.16 Million Salary And R2.7 Million Already Paid To His Lawyers
Portfolio Committee on Police Chairperson Ian Cameron has raised concerns over the cost to taxpayers of Senzo Mchunu’s legal representation and the continued remuneration of two police ministers. Cameron revealed that R2.7 million has already been paid for Mchunu’s lawyers, in addition to his salary while on special leave and the remuneration of Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia.
According to Cameron, Mchunu received R3.16 million in remuneration while on special leave, while Cachalia received R3.02 million. Together with the legal costs, the disclosed expenditure amounts to approximately R8.89 million. Cameron said the salary figures only run until August 2026, while the latest parliamentary reply does not disclose how much additional legal funding has been approved or committed.
Cameron compared the amount to the South African Police Service’s advertised 2026 constable salary, saying it represents more than 35 annual basic salaries before benefits, training and operational costs. He also highlighted staffing shortages at Khayelitsha’s Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit, which had 21 officials against an identified ideal of 43 during his May oversight visit.
Cameron said President Cyril Ramaphosa could relieve Mchunu of his Cabinet post while he remains a Member of Parliament, arguing that any entitlement to legal representation is a separate matter. He called for the arrangement involving two ministerial pay packages for one portfolio to end and urged the Police and Justice departments to disclose the full legal bill and clarify limits on further spending.
South Africans had to pay R2.7 million for Mchunu's lawyers...
EXPOSED: R2.7 MILLION FOR MCHUNU’S LAWYERS WHILE TAXPAYERS FUND TWO POLICE MINISTERS
Taxpayers have already paid R2.7 million for Senzo Mchunu’s lawyers.
That comes on top of R3.16 million in remuneration for Mchunu while on special leave, and another R3.02 million for Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia.
Approximately R8.89 million in disclosed remuneration and legal costs. The salary figures only run to August 2026. And the latest parliamentary reply still does not disclose how much more legal funding has been approved or committed.
At SAPS’s advertised 2026 constable salary, that total equals more than 35 annual basic salaries, before benefits, training and operational costs.
During my May oversight visit, Khayelitsha’s Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit had 21 officials against an identified ideal of 43.
President Ramaphosa could relieve Mchunu of his Cabinet post while he remains an MP. Any entitlement to legal representation is a separate issue.
Keeping two ministerial pay packages running for one portfolio is a reckless use of taxpayers’ money. Citing policy does not make it responsible.
Ramaphosa must end this arrangement. Police and Justice must disclose the full bill and the limits on further legal spending.

Yet @DWS_RSA minister Majodina insists there is no outbreak because nobody has died!

THE TRUTH ABOUT FARM MURDERS IN SA — JUST DROPPED
Politicsweb — 25 Oct 2026
Russell Lamberti interviews Dr James Myburgh — the man who has tracked farm attacks since 1991.
What he found:
📊 NUMBERS ARE NOT IN DISPUTE
- 327 attacks, 66 murders in 1991 alone
- Peak: 150 murders/year in 1997
- Sustained 90+/year until 2010
- 2025: 30 murders — lowest in 26 years, thanks to private security, not policing
- Close to 3,000 documented victims to be commemorated in Washington DC
📜 ORIGINS: NOT "JUST CRIME"
Myburgh traces first wave to mid-1980s ANC campaign from exile to "clear white farmers off the land":
1. General incitement to seize land
2. Landmine warfare + assassinations
3. Guerrilla infiltration to arm & direct youth groups
"That's how 'Kill the Boer' was first injected into SA" — Myburgh
From 1990s, attacks resurged amid transition — paramilitary networks continued.
❓ TODAY?
- Farmers remain MORE likely than other South Africans to be attacked at home and killed during attack
- Gov inquiries that say "robbery motive only" flawed
- Policing capacity collapsed — farmers responded with own security
- Expropriation Act & "Kill the Boer" chant keep fear alive
Myburgh: "Progressive intellectuals deny the phenomenon even exists. But the names of 3,000 dead are real."
