Richard Todd (Mobile,AL) never lost an SEC game as Alabama’s starting quarterback.
From 1973–75, the Tide went 33–3.
Three straight SEC championships.
A 1973 UPI national championship.
Todd was the kind of quarterback Bear Bryant trusted to run the Wishbone: tough enough to carry it, disciplined enough to command it.
At Alabama, he accounted for:
1,642 passing yards
16 passing touchdowns
1,254 rushing yards
16 rushing touchdowns
In his final game, Todd led Alabama past Penn State 13–6 in the 1976 Sugar Bowl and earned MVP honors.
The Wishbone had many stars. Richard Todd was the one who made it go.
