ebay also has the worst user experience on the internet

eBay is taking ~14% of all sales between people. How has no one built a viable competitor to this for a lower take rate?
FB marketplace is slightly cheaper but very scammy and still 10%
Forget competing with Amazon @elonmusk you should just build an alternative to eBay. High trust accounts here would flourish.
one of my personal motivations with gov.uk was burning wordpress out of every important uk government service. even back in 2012 we all knew it was a problem

We live in an incredible era. Every day something launches that looks wicked, and I feel like I’m constantly playing catch up just to keep up.
In a weird way, all of this has got me looking back at the earlier days of the internet, and wondering which lessons from that era still feel timeless.
That’s the idea behind Internet Icons at @meetgranola, a new event series celebrating the pioneers whose work still shapes the internet today.
First up in London 🇬🇧
- @EbenUpton, co-founder & CEO @Raspberry_Pi, the affordable little computer that got millions of kids (and plenty of grown-ups) tinkering, coding and building.
- Julia Whitney, who led design for the original BBC iPlayer during her eleven years at the BBC, as people’s media habits shifted from radio and TV to online, then mobile.
- @veen, co-founder & CEO of Typekit. Hard to imagine now, but websites used to be stuck with the same handful of fonts. Typekit changed that, and it’s part of the reason the web stopped looking so uniform and people could bring some individuality to their corner of it.

Every time I brought up skinny or oversized trousers here, the flurry of replies seem to suggest a general anxiety that I suspect stems from a fear of falling behind the current trend.
That is why I have put together a short list of trouser silhouettes that are more likely to stand the test of time, either because they sit on the edge of mainstream trends or occupy niche spaces that are unlikely to see mass adoption. I have narrowed the focus on menswear, as womenswear offers far greater variety, though some of these suggestions may also appeal to those interested in androgyny.

Nearly every phone and computer on Earth relies on one plain-text file to know what time it is.
When a country changes its clocks with a few weeks’ notice, or Morocco pauses daylight saving for Ramadan, someone has to update that file. Since 02005, that someone has been Paul Eggert, a computer science professor at UCLA, who does it as a volunteer.
Take a look at this great data visualization to see the full story:
