Spitfire engine: where is this RR Merlin now? During the 1970s, this Spitfire engine was recovered from its crash site near Westmeston, East Sussex, and transferred to the (then) Warnham War Museum run by the late Joe Lyndhurst. Its pilot, who baled out, was Sgt 'Robbie' Robertson of 72 Sqn, Biggin Hill, father of @blackrauthor When the museum closed, the engine disappeared. A long shot, but does anyone know where it ended up? Was it sold? Transferred to a private collector? Scrapped? It certainly wasn't among the artefacts later transferred to Tangmere Museum, but having found these images reminded me to ask around. Not brilliant pics, but in one it is possible to see the prop hub still attached to the front - quite unusual in wrecks of this nature.

What a combo of 🇺🇸 🇬🇧 and a Diamond Nine too! These are the spectacular images from a rare mixed formation comprising Hawk jets from the UK’s RAF Red Arrows display team and a United States Air Force C-17 aircraft. This pre-coordinated opportunity took place as both the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team and USAF C-17 were taking part in the Great State of Maine Airshow at the weekend (July 11-12) in Brunswick. Making the occasion even more poignant was that the Aircraft Commander of the USAF C-17 was an RAF pilot, Flight Lieutenant Sam Froggatt, currently on an exchange tour with the 14th Airlift Squadron, at Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina. The C-17, from the 437th Airlift Wing, also hosted members of the Red Arrows team aboard for this remarkable event, demonstrating the unique level of interoperability between the two nations. The Red Arrows are in the United States for a month-long tour called Operation Eagle Hawk, celebrating America 250 and the enduring relationship between the UK and US – particularly among the militaries of both nations. For the RAF, 2026 also marks 25 years of operating its own fleet of C-17 Globemasters – delivering troops, equipment and life-saving humanitarian aid around the world. #RedArrows | #RAF | #USAF | #C17
