Crankdat sets are so fun. I’m not coming for OP when I say this but as someone that can have a super elitist taste in music across some genres sometimes you gotta drop the hipster ego and allow yourself to enjoy things even when they’re super popular and or mainstream.

Gone are the days where "everyone knows" a popular recording artist or hit TV show or rising film star or best-selling book. This isn't because music, TV, film, and novels suddenly turned to shit. It's because the modern version of our internet killed monoculture. The end.

If you put the Jaguars in New York, LA or Dallas, we’d be talking about them as Super Bowl contenders. Jacksonville is really freaking good.
I know an artist with under 9,000 Instagram followers who sold out a 12-city run.
No viral moment and barely posts on socials.
He'd been emailing the same 6,000 people every two weeks for four years. Voice memos, an inside look at his career, demos, snippets, teasers, etc.
Open rate above 50%.
On tour announcement day he didn't need an algorithm to cooperate - he hit his fans directly.

You're not posting too much. You're posting things that don't mean anything. That's a different problem.

During the Blog Era, artists formed relationships directly with the people supporting their music. Now, an artist works with a manager. The manager works with their label. The label works with their distributor. The distributor works with platforms. Too many people in the middle.

the zingara situation is a great example to other DJs that you 100% NEED to invest into good marketing, branding, and PR. many situations like this can be avoided or handled gracefully with the correct set of eyes, and proper execution.

Managers who back an artist early, before there’s any buzz, should get a stake in that artist’s business. A music career is built the same way any business is built.
