The FTC recently sent letters to 24 healthcare companies, reaffirming patients’ right to price transparency. Surprise bills, facility fees, and overly complex pricing disclosures make it hard for healthcare consumers to make informed decisions. app.sosha.ai/s/4O8x3Yqf
Open enrollment is almost here, and many Americans are facing difficult choices between comprehensive but increasingly expensive coverage and more affordable plans that may fall short of their health care needs. Patients deserve better.

It was wonderful to attend the @FieldMuseum Gala honoring Marshall Field V and 60 years of the Women's Board. The evening demonstrated the impact that the Field Museum has had and continues to have and how the Museum's history is interwoven with that of Chicago. So honored to be a member of the Board of Trustees.

Happy Indigenous Peoples' Day!
Thanks so much to Kevin Barszcz and the @chicago Native American Engagement Council. It was so wonderful to participate, on behalf of the @CarolineOraFdn, as a member of the Chicago American Indian Community Collaborative, on a Learning Panel on Native American issues for the Chicago City Council and others in the City Hall Chambers along with Shelly Tucciarelli, Jasmine Gurneau, Haku Blaisdell, and Megan Bang.

Health care costs have increased consistently over the last 4 years, and deductibles have grown faster than inflation for roughly a decade. As the bills get bigger, patients are struggling to keep up.

What an wonderful panel at the @CorpBoardMember Summit with @slontoh and @GovTechGeek . In this session, real board-level scenarios were explored, examining how AI can responsibly strengthen governance while defining the guardrails needed to preserve accountability, confidentiality, and independent judgment. We all left with key takeaways on how good AI governance can elevate board oversight.

American patients are facing a medical debt crisis. According to a new report by The Commonwealth Fund, 1/3 of privately insured patients carry medical debt, medical debt, exhausting savings, delaying care, and cutting basic needs to afford treatment. app.sosha.ai/s/DZ8dZQzt
Even people with insurance are finding themselves incurring medical debt these days. In fact, almost half of insured patients owe at least $2,000 in medical debt. app.sosha.ai/s/EBVlx0ay
Autism therapy has been a covered Medicaid benefit since 2014. Providers now warn that aggressive new eligibility crackdowns will push kids with autism out of coverage entirely. Cutting paperwork corners shouldn't mean cutting off care.

The No Surprises Act was supposed to make health care more affordable for patients. Eliminating surprise billing is the right start, but now we have a complicated system of prior authorization, arbitration, and negotiation, inflating health care costs.

The @CarolineOraFdn was pleased to co-sponsor, along with the St Kateri Center of Chicago, the @AIHSChicago American Indian Health Service of Chicago, and @gichigamiinM Indigenous Nations Museum (Formerly Mitchell Museum of the American Indian), the 2026 STEM summer camp. There was a full week of activities in July!

A new Commonwealth Fund report finds that 3 in 10 U.S. adults may be affected by gaps in state legislation that should protect them from medical debt. Because of financial assistance exclusions and weak guardrails, Americans can't get the care they need.

The storms were crazy yesterday! It went pitch black in my home. My power is still out in Lansing, Illinois.
ComEd crews are working around the clock to restore power to more than 370,000 customers impacted by this morning's severe storms. Homewood, Chicago Heights, Lansing and Joliet are among the hardest-hit communities after winds of up to 96 mph and possible tornadoes swept through northern Illinois.
Nearly 3,000 ComEd employees and contractors are in the field assessing damage, repairing equipment and restoring service as safely and quickly as possible. While crews were pre-positioned ahead of the storm, damage across the region is extensive, including downed power lines, fallen trees and limbs on power lines, and broken utility poles.
Based on current conditions, ComEd estimates that approximately 80% of outages will be restored by noon on Aug. 13 and approximately 99% by 11p.m. on August 15.

I was so honored to receive the 2026 Margaret Brent award from the @ABAesq CommissiononWomen in the Profession. Thanks so much to my dear friend and former ABA president, @brown4lawyers, a previous Margaret Brent honoree herself, for nominating me and spearheading the nomination process. I am so grateful to Paulette, of course, for the nomination, but more importantly, for her friendship over the years. Paulette leads with grace, purpose, integrity and conviction. I admire her so much! Thank you, dear friend! #womenlawyers #friendship
What an incredible couple of days at the @GoldmanSachs Corporate Director Symposium. Thanks so much for Ilana Wolfe, Benjamin Wallace, and the entire team at GS for an insightful symposium.
The days were filled with information about artificial intelligence and the current M&A landscape. Special programs included a conversation with former Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates, about decision-making in uncertain times, and a final program with the wonderful @DorisKGoodwin who inspired us all and reminded us that what matters in leadership is character and integrity. I left energized to focus on strategic issues on the boards on which I serve.
