The nil check on a value that can't be nil. The fallback for a state that never happens.
Each one tells the next coding agent that the impossible is possible.
Mutation test is a must if you do LLM development! Add it to your review pipeline.
Mutineer 1.5.0 is out.
• --matrix shows which tests kill each mutant. Find tests that catch nothing, and tests that only repeat others. Built by @obie
• --timeout stops a stuck test from stalling the run
• --cache-dir puts the coverage cache where you want it
• 18 fixes
I told Claude "Convert end_of_life to Spinel Ruby. Make no mistakes" just to see what it would happen. It... worked!
A few gems had to be rewritten, because Spinel can't run them yet. Here's the initial result

All the workarounds I made to make this work were documented and I should open PRs to fix them shortly!

Calling all programmers who also make music…
If you’ve shipped software and shipped music, drop a link to something you’ve made below.
I’ll try to listen to at least one track from everyone who replies. I know there are a lot more musicians hiding in software than we realize. 🎸
Make me regret this post.

Many people have asked for it, so: #Hotwire is being added to the Rails documentation, and we’d love your feedback on the PR.
The Hotwire guide focuses specifically on Rails’ integration with Turbo and Stimulus, covering:
- The libraries that make up the Hotwire suite
- Using Turbo Drive, Frames, and Streams in Rails
- Delivering Turbo Streams over WebSockets with Action Cable
- Broadcasting Turbo Stream updates when Active Record models are created or updated
- Using Stimulus in Rails
Find the PR for review here, and thank you in advance: github.com/rails/rails/pull/…
‼️Update your Active Storage if it uses vips and ruby-vips:

⚠️ It's a remote code execution vulnerability, so it's urgent!
As much as I like the building capabilities that LLMs have brought us, I realize now how much it took away from my enjoyment of coding. It feels like a job more than before =/
I've not shared many tips and stuff like I did in the past, not I think about code that much in my free time like before. I used to engage a lot more on online communities like Lobsters too.
This new Hanami site is so pretty! hanakai.org/hanami
