everyone is so weird now and i think each of us has a moral obligation to warn someone they are getting weird if we notice they are becoming weird like this
My friend wants to plan a couples, no-kids weekend getaway, splitting the cost of a large AirBNB, in January for her 30th birthday. I really do not love this idea (husband is mortified), neither to spend the money nor to get someone to take the toddler for 3 days. It would be a 2.5 hour drive away for us, too, so it’s not like we’re close if something happens. I haven’t been away from him for even 1 night yet and he still just seems so young! It would be very hard to leave him for that long.
Am I just a party pooper who needs to get over it? Genuine question. Like I actually need advice here guys

It might surprise many to find out I essentially never think about 0days, despite my job. The hyper-complexity of environments is a far greater challenge, and also something you can't really explain to someone outside of the profession without a mental model of it. Yes you can just walk up to the prime minister with a shotgun.

People seem to think this post was about exploit development. It wasn’t.
You don’t need to discover a new software vulnerability to compromise 90% of organizations.

support you local scene and go to small shows. the best night of your life could be in a skate shop not far from your house. it could be in the basement of a house. you never know. every huge band was small once.

just talked to someone who knows shit and things we don’t, and all i would say is we should prepare for the best future to happen to us, despite any challenges we face along the way.

Anyone coming into my mentions downplaying sexual assault, abuse of women or just general rampant misogyny in SF “rationalist”/EA AI safety world is not anyone we should be listening to about AI safety. If u actually cared abt risk from AI you’d root out abusers, not elevate them

I pulled the IRS data, 110 people in the United States under the age of 25 made $10M or more total in 2023
We're living in a horrifying, fascinating new era of Silicon Valley where:
1. You can build a startup in 9 months, get acquired (but rly acquihired) by OpenAI, Anthropic, or Cognition, and walk away a multi-millionaire
2. You can join the right company at 22 and become effectively post-economic
And I don't think we've even begun to grapple with the degree to which this is warping an entire generation's relationship with money, ambition, work, and success.
When your peers are making generational wealth before 25, what does a normal career even look like anymore

Want to read a depressing 2013 blog I just recovered from the deep archive? It is about how we are falling behind on patching, ya know. chuvakin.blogspot.com/2013/1… IN 2013 :)

Here's a direct link to OpenAI's PDF claiming a refutation of ETH. In particular, it's claimed that 3SAT on n variables is in about exp(n/(log n)^{1/2+o(1)}) time
