I’m 34. Indie iOS developer, based in Dubai. $20k MRR from my own apps, with 5M+ organic downloads. Looking to connect with indie devs, solo founders, and people who can spend hours thinking about marketing.

What is better: learning Spanish and French from zero, or posting on X everyday?

Had a simple plan for today: work on my game for 2 hours, go to the gym, meet friends in the evening. Somehow ended up spending the entire day choosing a 1960s newspaper layout for that same game 🫠

Is App Review finally moving again? finespine got approved in just 11 hours — subscriptions too🪄 I was expecting to wait a couple of weeks, so this was a really nice surprise

Your friends are your superpower. They’re a source of ideas, motivation, passion, and ambition. Without talking to other people, exchanging ideas, and seeing what others are building, I don’t think I would have made my first $3M or built a business doing $20k MRR

I’ve built a habit of staying off X on weekends. Sure, some people are happy to do this every single day. But if you want to keep going for 10 years, I think you have to protect your mental state. And having real weekends is the foundation.

I think your first business goal should be based on your bare minimum. Let’s say you need $2k/month to live. Your first goal doesn’t need to be $2k MRR. It can be $200–400 MRR. With a subscription business, that revenue stays with you. You don’t need to earn the full $2k from scratch every month. Once you reach $400 MRR, you already covered 20% of your bare minimum. Now you only need to build the remaining 80%. And over the next few years, while your skills, product and marketing improve, that goal becomes much more realistic. Once you reach your bare minimum, you can quit your job and focus on growing the business

How often do you actually sit down and talk about money? Once a month, I do a financial check-in. I calculate the total balance for each company and my personal accounts, then compare it with the month before. I don’t track every transaction. If I saved less than usual, I just check where the money went. About twice a month, my partner and I also sit down and talk about where we’re going with money and investments. One month on its own doesn’t tell you much. But after years of doing this, I can see how much those small check-ins add up. They’ve helped me make some pretty big things possible — including buying an apartment from zero.

To be successful, I think you need consistency. We’ve been building apps for 10 years, and it took us about 2 years before we started making meaningful money. The hard part is keeping the bigger picture in mind. You need to move fast enough, but also see the forest for the trees. Those 2–3 subscribers you get today might become 100–200 in a couple of years. And at some point, that can be enough to actually make a living. That’s why I think consistency matters so much.

I don’t think $100/month AI coding is sustainable. Right now millions of people who could never build software before suddenly can. And existing developers can produce 10x more than before. Software supply can explode 100x. Demand won’t. There aren’t suddenly 100x more users, 100x more attention, or 100x more money to spend on apps. And AI companies are still spending absurd amounts of money on compute, training and infrastructure. At some point, the economics have to normalize. My guess: today’s almost unlimited $100 coding plans get heavily restricted, and serious AI coding access moves closer to $2,000/month. That sounds insane only if you compare it to a software subscription. It sounds much less insane if you compare it to the developer labor it replaces. And honestly, that might be healthy. It would wipe out a lot of the current app spam from people who can afford $100/month to generate 10 mediocre products, but can’t justify $2,000/month because none of them actually make money. The current era of nearly free software production feels less like a new equilibrium and more like a temporary subsidy.

Finally finished the FineSpine paywall Looks like one simple screen, but a lot went into it: Figuring out when and where to show it Working out the pricing tiers Deciding what exactly goes behind the paywall Setting everything up in App Store Connect Testing all the subscription states And after all that, I still think my favorite part is the little lime badge 🤭

Some people quit the game way too early. One bad month — and they’re ready to hang up their skills for good. Maybe the better mindset is this: Assume your first real win comes only after five years. Then keep playing anyway. Those are usually the people who are still around when success finally shows up.
