I asked @vestager whether her two wins in the EU's top court today -- against Apple and Google -- were a vindication of her work as the EU's competition commissioner over the past 10 years
Here's what she said 👇
France wants cognac and champagne to get the same treatment from the US as Irish whiskey (which President Trump said he would remove duties on in September)
The building boom giving Prague its most significant transformation since the end of communism 👇

"Nous sommes ici dans un parliament, chers collègues..."
Help, I can't stop watching the Belgian (federal) parliament sessions
Bart De Wever with what is now a regular warning about market risk around the budget, speaking in parliament a few minutes ago...
"We are contributing to the risk that our spread continues to widen. Our duty is to limit that risk, and the longer we wait, the greater the financial challenges we will face tomorrow."
Belgian budget watch continues...

Belgium is ramping up efforts to divest from stakes it amassed in banks during the global financial crisis, with some in the government pushing to prioritize the sale of its 5.7% stake in BNP Paribas SA. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
"The less we resemble France, the better," De Wever said in parliament today, addressing market volatility around the budget...
Belgian-German spread is now over 100 bps, but Belgium's a long way from France's risk premium
To be seen... how much a budget deal could change that picture
New from me -- some in the Belgian government want to sell the country's 5.7% stake in BNP Paribas (which is worth around €5.4 billion currently), though it wouldn't be in the immediate future and would be after ongoing divestment decisions

Interesting just how much safer Belgian debt is now considered than French (the most ever i believe!)
The European Commission indicated it plans to end an anti-dumping probe into Russia fertilizer imports

Market risk is increasingly the bogeyman in Belgian budget talks
Doesn't yet seem to be scary enough to force parties to strike a deal, but at what point does it get there?
PM De wever warned of "very worrying movements" & has now invited CB gov to address senior cabinet TWICE
Something about "tired, but not sad" is very funny to me
We started at 7:30 this morning in Brussels. The second shift begins after 10 PM, with Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten @MinPres.
Tired, but not sad.
"We agreed that North Atlantic Council will be convened within days"
Romanian air and naval units of the Coast Guard (GdC/MAI) and Emergency Situation Service (IGSU/MAI) are actively engaged in search& rescue operations, searching for the missing members of the crew of the ship that was attacked this morning in Romania’s exclusive economic zone at the Black Sea.
The 5 crew members that were already taken by helicopter to the hospital in Constanta are stable, some receive medical care for burns and smoke inhalation.
In its war of aggression against Ukraine, against all provisions of international law, Russia is making the Black Sea into a dangerous area for civilian ships. The killing of merchant mariners in the region and all over the world is a crime. Russia bears full responsibility for these developments.
Over the last 24 hours, four merchant ships were targeted, including in Romanian territorial waters and its economic exclusive zone and eight lives were lost.
Our condolences to the families that have lost a loved one.
These are callous and murderous attacks against civilians. This happens at the same time that we see an increasing number of Russian Shahed and other types of air and maritime drones entering our space, three of them just today. Our military has lifted fighter jets for preventive air policing.
We informed the Allies and our European partners of the latest incidents. Investigations are under way and we are closely coordinating with our Allies and partners and we will step up efforts to strengthen NATO’s collective ability to respond effectively to such incidents and reinforce its deterrence and defence posture.
We agreed that North Atlantic Council will be convened within days by Secretary General Mark Rutte, after a meeting with President Nicușor Dan and prime minister of Bulgaria, Rumen Radev.
We continue to ask for a ceasefire at the Black Sea to stop the risk on civilian ships and restore safety of navigation on an essential global food trade artery.

Here’s another story, for everyone asking me how it feels to live in Kyiv these days. For @AFP
