Rarely do you see a company have so much positive influence on an ecosystem as Foursquare did on the NYC tech scene… especially to have it end like this.
Kudos to @dens for writing an eloquent post-mortem that takes on that impact, and its sad final chapter, head-on.
Foursquare was acquired last month. The outcome was disappointing. It's taken me a while to write this, but I think I'm finally done grieving it. Here are some thoughts on our final years, an effort to honor the team who helped build & maintain FSQ's legacy, and my attempt to finally get some closure. teendrama.substack.com/p/som…

August 2009, I was cast in a skit on the OG Jon Stewart Daily Show. I didn't work there, but wanted to wear a @foursquare shirt because I loved the app and community so much.
They had no merch yet. So @dens had one made at a 24hr place in the garment district. I wore it in the skit, but the editors blurred the logo. Business Insider covered the whole thing.
I bled foursquare those years. We all did!
What a ride, what an essay, what a time. XOXO

“We are not all right.”
I said those words in the days after October 7, 2023. Three years later, we are STILL not all right.
We remember the children, parents and grandparents murdered by Hamas. The young people who went to a music festival and never came home. The families whose pain does not end when the anniversary passes.
And we are not all right when antisemitism spreads like wildfire, too often fueled or excused by government officials who have a responsibility to confront it. We are not all right when Jewish families live in fear and those entrusted to protect them look the other way.
It is more important than ever to stand up, speak out and fight this hatred. Silence cannot be our answer.
To my Jewish brothers and sisters: Your fight is my fight. I am your brother. I stood beside you then. I stand beside you now. And I always will.
May the memories of those we lost be a blessing.

We just got one step closer into turning Park Ave into a marquee boulevard for people, not just cars.
After extensive engagement with Community Boards 5 and 6, I’m thrilled @NYC_DOT’s latest design widens the median and creates more space for pedestrians, public art and landscaping.
I’m also glad DOT listened to community feedback by moving the proposed two-way bike lane alongside the median while preserving expanded pedestrian space.

The prevailing view of so much of the young left in America is that we’re the worst country ever, so if someone attacks us, they can’t be all bad.

A Kenyan Maasai village gifted the United States 14 cows after the attacks of September 11th, 2001.
Cows are a sacred animal to the Maasai people and a cornerstone to their lifestyle. They were gifted to American ambassador William Brencick in a special ceremony that moved him to tears.
July 2001, I went to a math program at the University of Michigan to learn about infinity (news.umich.edu/high-school-s…), and on my flight back to LaGuardia, I was excited to see the Twin Towers out my window
