I think You Can See Everything is freaking ppl out cause they cant hold multiple things in their head at once: 1. Both the ppl in the couple are evil 2. The guy is evil in immediately recognizable ways 3. Theyre both actually fully in love 3. Nate is also kinda evil

now a deleted post, but this is the ultimate end point of capitalism, ai will completely atomize everyone and there will be zero shared experiences. there will be no culture, only pure consumption. this must be resisted

In film studies, our prof once went on a rant abt how we have to "de-americanize" our view of art. iirc "Americans are obsessed with plot. Form, function, feeling, they ignore it all to ask if the plot is believable or logical. All they care about is outsmarting the artist."

Contrapoints was actually right, these people don't want victory or power they just want to endlessly critique power

John Stewart holding the suit on his body and looking at himself stoically is quite literally a “Chekov’s Superhero Suit” moment that never gets paid off.
People who say Lanterns was a Surf Dracula misunderstand that a Surf Dracula is about what is promised vs. what is delivered, not one’s personal wishlist for an adaptation. Lanterns never promised anything other than what it was (and it delivered what it promised excellently).

"there is an ontological difference even before an aesthetic one". This is key. It does not matter how good your machine is at regurgitating a simulacrum of human imagination, how skilled it is at fooling people, or how efficient it is at that subterfuge. It is a priori fucked up
In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.

Even as a non-religious person, I personally cringe at the hubris required to personally tell the Pope that you think your company has created an ensouled being, thus rendering Anthropic equivalent to God the creator. Further, that you did it for profit and it is now enslaved.

Hear me out. The value of human labor is trending toward zero. Some of the most talented people I've ever worked with can't find jobs right now. And the people who don't see what's coming are responding the exact wrong way. More degrees. More certificates. More skills. The belief that if they make themselves more valuable to an employer, they'll be safe. This is not the way. The world is dividing into two classes: the labor class and the asset class. The only way out is owning assets. Scrimp. Save. Convert every dollar you can into things that can't be inflated away. Gold. Land. Bitcoin. To a lesser extent, stocks. Investing in the value of your own labor is a great way to go broke slowly. If you do invest in your skills, do it for exactly one reason: to convert that labor into assets as fast as humanly possible. Labor is the on-ramp. Assets are the only way out.

Top 5 scene in the entire franchise. Where Anakin could not live with his failures and turned to the dark side, Luke learned from them, made his way back to the light, and fought for the rebellion one last time, giving them a shot at a better tomorrow. What a picture, man.

This happened bc the museum sold ownership to Drexel University, and the higher ups decided to stop funding it despite having PLENTY of money. Do not trust outside corps please hold things precious to you closely.

This is the most remarkable story Ray Bradbury ever shared with me. He told it late at nigh, sitting in his den of antiquities and mementos. Take five minutes to read this. It’s pure magic. #Writing #Living #Creativity #RayBradbury #Book
