Easy win on your campaign reporting is splitting your engaged segment into cohorts.
Letās say you normally send to one giant 160 day engaged listā¦
Instead of selecting that as one segment, break it into:
> Engaged non-buyers
> Engaged one-time buyers
> Engaged repeat buyers
> Engaged active subscribers
> Engaged churned subscribers.
With the same campaign, you can see exactly which group opened, clicked, and bought in Klaviyoās audience breakdown.
Maybe your churned subscribers went crazy for a specific offerā¦
Maybe your non-buyers ignored an educational email that your repeat buyers crushedā¦.
Thatās information youād never get from one blended number from an engaged group.
And after a month of doing this you know which concepts land with which cohort, and which tells you what to build your actual segmentation and offer strategy around.
If youāre running BFCM on a subscription brand, do NOT fully blast your active subscribers with your sitewide offer.
Theyāll see a better deal than the one theyāre on and cancel to resub at the promo rate.... which means you just gave back revenue you already had and reset their tenure.
However you don't just want to exclude them fully since they are your best customersā¦
Hereās what to do instead:
- Exclude active subs from MOST of your BFCM campaigns
- Send them a couple of the core offer messages so theyāre not fully left out. They need to do gifting too and will buy for their friends/family.
- Build them a separate custom bonus offer that adds revenue instead of replacing it
- Never discount their next subscription order
- Offer 50% off a one-time add-on to their next order or to add another subscription
- Use your platformās add-on functionality so it lands in the existing queue
BFCM should add subscription revenue without cannibalizing your current subscription revenue.
Incredible book and a must read if you are a service based business.
Iāve read it 3 times now, just bought it again because Iām getting dinner at the restaurant the book is about next week.
Highly recommend.

Nothing more impactful than testing your acquisition offerā¦
Email A: Welcome + Free Gift 4.1% placed order rate
Email B: Welcome + Mystery Discount 6.8% placed order rate
Email B nearly 50% increase in placed order rate.
We are now switching to drive all traffic towards this offer.
Testing offers can be the difference between being profitable on the first purchase.
Always test your welcome offer.

Curious what adding a free gift on Order #2 does for a subscription brand?
š Free Gift Recipients: 77.9% rebill rate on Order 2
ā Holdout Group: 70.4% rebill rate on Order 2
Given their COGS on the gift, it is well worth it.
(Also, the recipients will rebill more times)

This is what I'd fix if Liquid IV hired me to redesign their launch email šš¼
The problem:
- Liquid IV just launched their new Energy Multiplier.
- The email they sent was crowded, clunky, and missing basic conversion elements.
- No button at the top. The customer has to scroll just to click anything.
What I changed:
1. Emotional hero image + button above the fold
- The original had no CTA at the top, so the customer has to scroll before they can click.
- On a launch email, that alone kills your click rate.
- Put an emotional product image up top with a button right underneath it, leaning into the limited drop angle.
2. Us vs. them comparison block instead of copy blocks
- The original just had paragraphs explaining why their energy stick is different.
- Nobody reads blocks of copy in an email. They scan.
- An us-vs.-them comparison section educates the reader and converts them without making them work for it.
3. Repeated shop now buttons after every section
- If a reader finishes a section and there is no button, the only option is to keep scrolling or close.
- Every section needs its own CTA so the customer never has to scroll back.
- More buttons means more chances to capture the click at every natural stopping point.
4. Individual product CTAs per SKU
- They released two new flavors and lumped them under one section.
- Each product needs its own shop now button. One button should never do the job of two.
- The easier you make it to buy a specific product, the more people will.
5. Subscription offer featured at the bottom
- Liquid IV gives 30% off when you subscribe, and they never mentioned it in the email.
- This is a strong offer. It should live at the bottom of every single email they send.
- If you have a subscription discount and you are not pushing it, you are leaving recurring revenue on the table.
6. Category footer with general shop buttons
- Not everyone opening this email wants an energy drink.
- A footer with shop now buttons for other categories lets you capture a sale from someone who is not interested in the featured product.
- Most brands skip this entirely.
Interviewing a podcast guest and saying, ācan you explain that to the audienceā when in reality I didnāt understand and need them to explain to me.

One of the easiest ways to increase your take rate move is giving people three subscription options instead of two.
> A monthly subscription
> A quarterly subscription
> A one-time purchase.
The reason three beats two is that two of your three options are now subscription, so subscribing becomes the default frame...
The quarterly option anchors monthly as the middle, safe choice....
And one-time becomes the obvious worst value sitting there next to both of them....
Most people end up subscribing simply because itās two out of three options on the page.
Surprised by how many brands actually structure it this way lol.
