Don't know what it says that ChatGTP is solving math problems at the frontier of human knowledge but can't solve this week's Russian Math School 2nd grade "challenge" problem

This is excellent. I would add one more thing: if the paper is based on public time series data it should contain a section that updates as new data is released including testing the conclusions out of sample.
What should an open scientific paper look like in the AI age? We made a demonstration project out of our paper on the childhood socioeconomic circumstances of the Nobel Laureates. Please check it out and share. Details in 🧵 1/

Silicon Valley keeps building me a husband when what I really want is a wife lol I don't want an agent that only does one-off, random tasks that are nice but not life-changing: booking flights, making dinner reservations, or buying tickets I want an AI wife who knows what’s on the family calendar, remembers there’s a birthday party Saturday and we haven’t bought a gift then sends me options, realizes we’re almost out of diapers and buys them, knows which bills are coming up, remembers someone needs a dentist appointment and books it, figures out what the hell we’re eating all week and what we need from the grocery store, and generally keeps track of the 47 things that need to happen before anyone else even realizes they need to happen. So, who's building me an AI wife that carries the mental load instead of an AI husband that waits for me to give it a chore??

On the topic of books I was fortunate enough to blurb, here's my two cents on Justin de Benedictis-Kesnner's (@jdbk) comprehensive tour de force, "The Fog of Accountability: How Institutions Keep Voters from Holding Their Local Governments Accountable."
On the theme of Canadian elections, I'm delighted to have been able to give a blurb for Eric Merkley's (@EricMerkley) awesome new book "Polarization, Eh?". You can't understand polarization on either side of the border without this book.

Universities clearly cannot be trusted to keep students safe on their own. The federal government should consider mandating ā€œhard garblingā€ surveys (which increase honest reporting) on all college campuses to understand the extent of sexual assault and the impacts of interventions intended to reduce it. Individual universities will not do this because the data will reveal just how bad the situation is. The Trump Administration has an opportunity to be a tremendous force for good on this issue.
I am Kennedy’s advisor (@k_johnston22). If you are hiring in applied micro (crime, education, gender), you should look at Kennedy’s very important and novel JMP and research agenda. Feel free to email me.

I would not be surprised if Alito and/or Thomas announce sudden retirements and they try to push through confirmation in the lame duck.
Sure hope that Senate Rs are making plans to confirm all remaining judicial nominees during post-election lame-duck period. The prospect that Dems will win control of the Senate (something I have been warning about for a long time) seems increasingly likely. It might not happen, but best to be prepared if it does.

For what it's worth, there are already quickly emerging disciplinary divides on how to approach/use AI in publishing Law appears to me the place where academics (and student editors) are trying to circle the wagons the fastest & hardest, which is pretty interesting

Yeah, new high for Democrats on generic ballot (+8.8 with likely voter adjustment), new low for Trump approval rating (-21.5 net), new D high in Senate and House odds, good state polls for Ds, pretty much everything.

Still thinking about this and it’s an important reminder to me as an Indian American that to the racists we are all the same - lesser. It is actually sad to me that JD Vance has said nothing when his wife is Indian and his kids are half Indian.
I heard UT graduation this year looked like this. I didn’t believe it. The problem is now obviously far worse than anyone imagined.

Disgusting. Republican bigots hide behind the veneer of "legal immigration" but the truth is, they can't compete in today's world and their only response is racism

Trump's '24 landslide in Texas was powered by massive gains with Hispanic voters and the halting of a longer term GOP slide w/ college-educated voters. Polling currently has Talarico rolling back all of Trump's Hispanic gains and opening up a wider-than-ever Dem college+ edge:

I've said this before, but there is a profound incoherence in universities' responses to AI University admins are championing AI hiring and fundraising, while professors are left on their own in dealing with the resulting cheating & learning loss

Social media has short circuited a way of preventing idiotic takes from spreading: your main outlet for these kinds of takes used to be at a bar with your friends where they would mock you for being stupid before you could inflict said stupidity on a wider group.
My entire TL is like -you know what would be based? if women were imprisoned in milking camps -everyone who makes over $70K annually should be put down like a dog -tylenol is genocide against headaches

Don't usually agree with this author, but I agree on this The incentives of university administrators on AI use & reliance are pretty divergent from the incentives of professors in the classroom
Replying to @Tyler_A_Harper
I will beat this drum until the skin falls off it. If you are a prof and you buy any of the schtick your admins are selling about how the "integration" of AI can co-exist with a traditional liberal arts education, you are being taken for ride. Well past time to face reality. 2/

Deans are right now trying to fundraise as much as possible off of AI -- new faculty lines, centers, cluster hires etc Meanwhile professors are on the front lines trying to stem cheating and catastrophic learning collapse

These two things make for a very incoherent approach by elite universities: on the one hand, deans see AI as the future (šŸ’°) but also professors are on their own in figuring how to actually use it Exception: UChicago/Chicago Law clearly taking early leadership in this space
