Trump has spent two years making China look better by comparison. Then the Mbappé saga came along and instantly reminded the world just how nationalistic, insecure, and closed-off China remains.

This Mbappe-China saga is way beyond a meme, they hated him and wanted a little chance to get him cancelled and they finally got it. Mbappe has been mocked for years but the moment he says he find those memes funny, an entire country stands up and call it an insult.

This is why China can never be #1 overall lool. culturally/socially, they suckkk. East Asia bruh, the most insignificant thing can turn into world war Z in that region
I remember having this argument 4 yrs ago, China has terrible soft power. They can never make it

International soccer star @KMbappe should not apologize for calling Mao Zedong a dictator. Mao was a dictator, and by orders of magnitude, he did more harm to the Chinese people than a comment from a soccer player ever could. Mao was the leader of the CCP for decades and his dictatorship and disastrous policies killed tens of millions of Chinese people in the Cultural Revolution, the Great Famine, and other atrocities. Involved in the Party from its first national meeting in 1921, Mao is the principal historical figure for a Party that continues his practices of oppression and ideological purges. For decades, the CCP has denied the Chinese people basic human rights including freedom of expression and freedom of religion. These are rights enjoyed by Mbappe and millions of people around the world and Mbappe should exercise this opportunity to tell the horrific truth about Mao’s dictatorship.
The real disgrace in this news story is the companies rushing to apologize so they can continue to do business in China. The CCP is the largest oppressor of the Chinese people and their human rights, and those businesses that work with the CCP help normalize its crushing brutality. reuters.com/business/media-t…

you can love a footballer and still admit when he is wrong. i love kylian mbappe but can acknowledge his flaws (he has none) and can hold him accountable for his wrongs (never done anything wrong in his life) and call him out for his actions (which are always correct)
when griezmann and dembele had a video of them mocking the asian hotel staff where they mocked their language and their features while dembele recorded, they didn’t even get a quarter of the backlash mbappe has for laughing at a meme of himself, no statements from laliga or the president condemning them, no national outrage, didn’t lose any sponsors, just a shitty apology and got away with it

If we let China become a cultural hegemon, a third of our Instagram reels will be apologies to the CCP.

what scares me is that mbappé might walk away from football while he still has years of greatness left in him, simply because he gets tired of the circus, the constant criticism, the narratives, the pressure and people turning everything he does into a problem
